Empowering Youth with Essential Sustainability Skills

The sixth edition of the “Clean Energy Youth” programme, organised by the Sustainability and Innovation Centre under Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, has garnered praise from participants for its role in enhancing their theoretical and practical knowledge in sustainability and renewable energy. The programme has successfully acquainted them with the latest developments and innovative technologies in these critical fields.

Fostering Team Spirit and Innovation

Participants commended the positive interactive environment that characterised various events throughout the programme. This atmosphere encouraged a sense of collective responsibility and teamwork, while also igniting their passion for science, innovation, engineering, and sustainability.

Preparing for a Sustainable Future

The importance of the Sustainability and Innovation Centre was highlighted as a national and global platform aimed at empowering youth. The centre plays a vital role in preparing participants for future demands and enhancing their constructive contributions towards achieving Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050. This involves generating 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Voices from the Participants

Sharing his insights, participant Saif Ali Al Bloushi stated, “I gained a deeper understanding of solar energy systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and smart energy solutions. I also developed my skills in sustainable thinking and teamwork, linking theoretical aspects to practical applications through workshops and field visits to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the Sustainability and Innovation Centre, and the Sheraa exhibition. This has intensified my passion for clean energy.”

Similarly, Reem Ali Al Shmeili expressed her transformation, saying, “Before the programme, I viewed sustainability as limited to the energy sector, but now I believe it is an essential part of every aspect of our lives. The programme changed my way of thinking, and my goal is to design innovative engineering solutions that integrate technology and sustainability for a more sustainable future.”

Sarah Khalfan Al Shamsi added, “I believe that the future of jobs will be linked to sustainability and clean energy, and I wanted to start building my knowledge in this field now. For me, participating in the programme is a small step today that could open up greater opportunities in the future.”
