The “Afaq” leadership programme by Sajaaya and Nasheea is set for 8-13 August; it aims to develop leadership identity and emotional intelligence through practical application, selecting 40 participants from 141 applications.

The “Afaq” leadership programme, organised by the Sajaaya Girls of Sharjah and Nasheea Sharjah, will take place from 8 to 13 August as part of the foundational skill-building pathway in leadership and parliamentary skills. Under the slogan “A Generation Leads, An Impact Inspires,” this comprehensive experience aims to cultivate a generation equipped with self-awareness and essential leadership skills, enabling them to create a lasting positive impact in their communities.

This initiative has garnered significant interest, with 141 applications received. The selection process will involve an initial screening based on established criteria, followed by personal interviews to choose 40 successful candidates who will participate in the programme.

An Essential Step

Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director-General of the Quarter Century Foundation for the Advancement of Leaders and Innovators, emphasised that investing in the development of youth character and leadership abilities is critical for preparing a responsible generation. She stated, “Building leaders does not start from positions of authority, but rather from providing opportunities for youth to discover themselves, learn from their experiences, and turn their ideas into actionable practices.”

She added that programmes that provide space for experimentation, teamwork, decision-making, and community service are crucial in this developmental journey.

Understanding Oneself

The programme will focus on key leadership themes, beginning with leadership identity, which aims to enhance self-awareness, identify strengths, and develop a clearer leadership identity among participants. Additionally, emotional and social intelligence will be addressed, contributing to the development of positive communication skills and effective relationship-building.

Sheikha Al Shamsi, Director of Sajaaya Girls of Sharjah, highlighted that the programme offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage in a comprehensive leadership experience. This journey encompasses self-discovery, group collaboration, decision-making, and ultimately making a meaningful impact on society.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Yassi, Director of Nasheea Sharjah, reinforced that effective leadership experiences require moving from theoretical concepts to practical applications. He noted that the programme not only conveys leadership principles but also allows participants to apply these principles in real-world scenarios.
