The Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority has introduced a new maternity leave support service for women working in the private sector, as part of its “Support for Emirati Family Growth” programme. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategy for enhancing quality of life and family welfare, allowing Emirati mothers in the private workforce to receive paid maternity leave support for up to 90 days. This initiative aims to provide mothers with the necessary time and comfort to care for their newborns.
Details of Maternity Leave Support
Under this service, beneficiaries will receive two financial disbursements. The first payment constitutes 25% of the employee’s salary, while the second payment reaches 100% of their total salary, up to a maximum limit of 15,000 dirhams. Overall, the supported maternity leave period extends to 90 days, enabling mothers to focus on their new arrival without financial stress.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this support scheme, the applicant must meet several criteria. Firstly, the husband of the applicant must be a citizen of Abu Dhabi. Secondly, the applicant must be an Emirati woman employed in the private sector within the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, it is required that she obtains a “no objection” certificate from her employer, permitting an extension of her maternity leave to the full 90 days.
Application Process
The Authority has made provisions for working mothers to apply for this service up to 60 days before their expected delivery date. This proactive approach aims to streamline the application process, ensuring that all documentation is in place and that the benefits can be accessed promptly following the birth. As part of the application, the mother must also provide details of her newborn’s Emirati identity card.
These initiatives not only support working mothers but also reflect the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority to foster a nurturing environment for families in the emirate.
