Empowering Families of Individuals with Disabilities through Skill Development

The Al Jalila Foundation recently organised a training programme titled “Understanding and Supporting Neurodiversity” as part of its “Taaluf” initiative. The event witnessed participation from 275 parents and caregivers of people of determination from various regions across the UAE.

Empowering Parents and Caregivers

This programme, conducted in collaboration with Seg Clinics, aims to equip parents and caregivers with essential knowledge and tools to better understand the needs of children with disabilities. Remarkably, it brought together families from 50 different nationalities, highlighting the diverse participation and the broad impact of this initiative.

Comprehensive Sessions for Holistic Development

The training consisted of six sessions led by a team of specialists from Seg Clinics. The discussions covered various topics related to child development, understanding neurodiversity, managing differing behaviours, and enhancing social communication skills.

Significance of the Initiative

According to Nada Al Hujeri, Director of Community Programs at Al Jalila Foundation, the Taaluf programme serves as a crucial pillar in supporting people of determination. It empowers parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate children’s growth and enhance their quality of life. Al Hujeri emphasised that the strong turnout for this training underscores the importance of continuing to provide initiatives based on specialised expertise that address the needs of families.

Expert Guidance for Lasting Impact

Dr. Mahmoud Al Ali, Managing Partner at Seg Clinics, stated that parents play a vital role in the development of their children. He highlighted that even simple changes in communication styles and responses to children’s needs can lead to lasting effects. The programme aims to provide families with practical strategies rooted in clinical experience that they can incorporate into their daily lives.

Continuing Commitment Since 2013

It is noteworthy that the Al Jalila Foundation launched the Taaluf programme in 2013 to support people of determination and their families. This includes a variety of training sessions, events, and community initiatives designed to equip parents, teachers, and caregivers with the necessary skills to foster positive behaviour.
