الشارقة 24:

The Department of Culture in Sharjah has recently released issue 83 of both “Al Sharqiya” and “Al Wasat” magazines for August 2026, highlighting the growing developmental landscape in the Central and Eastern regions of the UAE.

Al Sharqiya Magazine

In its 83rd edition, “Al Sharqiya” features a compelling segment on the fifth edition of the “Khorfakkan Mango Festival”. This event showcases the economic potential of agriculture when supported and nurtured, illustrating that agricultural festivals serve not only to celebrate the bounties of the land but also to enhance local produce marketing and support farmers.

The magazine includes an interview with Sharifa Hassan Al Dhahouri, the Director of Erthi Centres for Skills Development and a native of Daba Al-Hassan, who shares her journey in the realm of developing traditional industries. In the “Authentic Features” section, we meet theatre artist Youssef Al Kaabi, who reminisces about Khorfakkan’s vibrant theatre scene during the 1980s. The “Generations Educator” piece spotlights the professional journey of educator Mariam Hassan bin Haniifa, while the “Craft” section takes us into the artistic contributions of calligrapher Barout Othman.

A visit to the Zaid bin Thabit Mosque in the Khorkalba area reveals a true gem of traditional Gulf architecture. The “In Focus” segment explores the Sharjah Ladies Club in Kalba, a dynamic social space filled with knowledge and recreation opportunities.

The magazine also sheds light on the journey of the volleyball team at Kalba Sports Cultural Club in the “Arena” section. Additionally, “Pathways” introduces Aisha Shahdad from Kalba, whose leadership skills have blossomed through children’s centres and her professional career. Young talent Abed Al Zaabi shares his artistic pursuits in “On the Road”.

Included in this issue are several articles exploring local heritage. In “Memory”, readers will discover “A Tale from the Past,” recounting when the youth of Kalba ignited the first theatrical spark in their city. The “Biography” section offers an intimate look at the life of Mohammed Hussein Al Mulla.

Al Wasat Magazine

Turning to “Al Wasat”, issue 83 delves into its own highlights with a focus on the “Fili” poultry farm project in Al Madam, which stands as a pioneering model in free-range poultry farming. Emphasising organic feed and the latest production management technologies, this initiative exemplifies modern agricultural practices.

In the “Pathway to Excellence” segment, we converse with Dr. Said Mohammed Abdallah Al Badioui Al-Tunaji, who boasts an extensive and varied career within the aviation and diplomatic fields. The “Authentic Features” section presents Mohammed Zayed Al Tunaji, while “Date Palm Keeper” highlights Rashid Maheer Al Ketbi, the head of the sorting and evaluation committee at the Al Dhaid Date Festival. “Craft” presents young Ibrahim Abdullah bin Dalmouk Al Ketbi and his entrepreneurial venture, “Souga Al Hassan,” specialising in prayer beads at the Al Sharia market in Al Dhaid.

The “In Focus” segment provides an insightful report on the Friday Market in Mleiha, which plays a significant developmental, social, economic, and tourist role. The section “On the Horizon” introduces visitors to the ancient wells of “Al Twa,” now prominent archaeological sites drawing visitors. Young talent Khalifa Musbah Al Kaabi shares his passion for archery, pursued at the Al Madam Cultural Sports Club.

Readers can also follow the excitement of the 2026 weaning race season organised by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, detailed in the “Arena” section.
