Dubai Roads Establishes Contract for Developing Pedestrian Pathways in the Historic Al Ras Area

In a move to enhance urban mobility, Dubai Roads has awarded the first phase contract for developing pedestrian pathways in the historic Al Ras area, named “Dubai Walk.” The project aims to provide integrated infrastructure that improves individual mobility and encourages the use of public transportation, contributing to the goals of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and making the city more pedestrian-friendly.

Details of the “Dubai Walk” Project

The Dubai Roads project includes the implementation of 12 kilometers of pedestrian pathways and five kilometers of cycling paths. It also involves the rehabilitation of 10 artistic spaces in the area. The agency’s director general, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that this plan aims to achieve a high level of global competitiveness in pedestrian facilities and individual mobility.

Connecting Historical Landmarks

The pedestrian pathways will connect key landmarks in the Al Ras area, including several prominent historical sites such as Al Ahmadiya School and the house of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum. Additionally, the pathways will connect to public transport stations, facilitating the movement of residents and visitors. Al Tayer noted that linking these destinations would enhance a unique mobility experience.

Improving the Urban Environment

The Dubai Roads project aims to improve the pedestrian environment through urban designs that respect the historical character of the area. Enhancements will include widening sidewalks, adding green spaces, and providing shading features to create comfortable resting areas. Modern lighting technologies will be used to highlight the history and culture of the area, alongside ongoing artistic events.

Future Plans

The first phase of the Dubai Roads project is set to commence from 2025 to 2027, with extended plans until 2040 to create an interconnected network of pathways. The project will also include the implementation of 110 pedestrian bridges and tunnels, which will improve connectivity between key attractions and public transport, enhancing the artistic identity of the pathways.

Through this project, the agency aims to provide a safe and comfortable walking environment, allowing Dubai residents and visitors to enjoy a pleasant mobility experience that reflects the city’s beauty and rich culture.
