Dubai is continuously striving to improve its public transportation network, with the latest achievement being the development of 22 passenger and bus shelter stations throughout the city. This pioneering project reflects the Roads and Transport Authority’s commitment to enhancing public transport services and ensuring a comfortable and safe commuting experience for all users. These developments include 16 passenger stations aimed at improving the user experience and 6 bus shelters, enhancing the efficiency of the public transportation system and meeting the aspirations of the city’s residents and visitors.
Improving Transportation Infrastructure
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has successfully completed the project to develop 22 passenger and bus shelter stations, comprising 16 passenger stations and 6 bus shelters. This development aims to enhance the quality of services provided to passengers and create a safe and integrated environment to facilitate daily use. Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the authority, notes that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to encourage residents to utilize public transport.
The bus shelters, which can accommodate a fleet of 1,387 buses, include a range of maintenance and cleaning services to ensure the buses are ready for use. Consideration has been given to providing new facilities that cater to the needs of all users, including people of determination and cyclists.
Advanced Features of Passenger Stations
Improvements at the passenger stations include renovated waiting areas, upgraded infrastructure systems, and the addition of prayer rooms at some locations. At these stations, 110 lines operate to transport passengers, with an estimated capacity of around 710 buses during peak hours. Al Tayer emphasizes that the goal is to provide a comprehensive user experience that goes beyond mere waiting, contributing to user satisfaction.
Connecting Different Modes of Transport
The project to develop 22 passenger and bus shelter stations in Dubai aligns with the authority’s vision to enhance connectivity between various modes of transport. First and last-mile requirements have been addressed by providing pedestrian pathways and bicycle parking. All of this facilitates access to the stations and encourages the use of sustainable transportation options.
This initiative complements many previous projects undertaken by the authority, which included the establishment of modern stations in strategic locations, thereby increasing public transport coverage across the city.
Commitment to Global Standards
The Roads and Transport Authority emphasizes the quality of its modern bus fleet, which complies with European standards for low carbon emissions, known as “Euro 6.” Additionally, a contract has been signed to supply 637 new buses, including zero-emission electric buses, representing a significant step toward achieving a more sustainable future.
The new projects also include the provision of double-decker buses and articulated buses to serve densely populated urban areas, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to enhancing public transportation and improving the quality of life for its residents.
With these developments, the Roads and Transport Authority is contributing to enhancing the transportation experience in Dubai, making it a leading city in sustainable and reliable mobility.
