Dubai is set to host the finals of the 50th International Programming Contest (ICPC) from November 15 to 20, a prestigious event that highlights the emirate’s commitment to becoming a global leader in technology and innovation. More than 12,000 mentors will supervise 63,000 students representing around 3,500 universities from 93 countries, showcasing Dubai’s drive to attract talent and creative minds from around the globe. This significant occasion was announced at a press conference held at the Dubai Digital Economy Chamber, attended by Saeed Al Quraishi, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Digital Economy Chamber, and Dr. William Poucher, President and CEO of the ICPC Foundation.
Significance of the Event
His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the importance of establishing a comprehensive digital ecosystem supported by future-oriented policies that foster innovation and entrepreneurship. He stated, “Hosting the finals of the 50th International Programming Contest reflects Dubai’s position as a global technology hub and a platform that attracts digital talent and innovators from various countries.” This event is not only a celebration of coding excellence but also serves as a long-term investment in the knowledge economy, aligning with Dubai’s 2030 Economic Agenda and enhancing its competitiveness among global digital economies.
A Gateway for Young Talent
Saeed Al Quraishi mentioned, “Currently, the competition is ongoing with regional championships worldwide, where teams compete based on their sizes and universities to qualify for the finals in Dubai.” He explained that over 3,350 universities are involved, representing more than 63,000 students, supported by roughly 10,000 volunteers and 12,000 experts who mentor the teams. “Over the years, ICPC has produced more than half a million programmers and innovators who now hold leadership positions in major technology firms,” he added. Among its alumni are notable figures such as Adam D’Angelo, the first CTO of Facebook, and Nikolai Durov, co-founder of Telegram. Celebrating the golden jubilee of the contest, many of these leaders and their companies will be present in the UAE, highlighting ICPC as a global gateway for discovering top talent.

It encompasses a series of regional contests culminating in eight championships, with winners qualifying for the global finals in 2026. More than 130 student teams, each consisting of three participants, will compete to solve complex problems and algorithms in the shortest possible time, embodying a test of programming intellect, innovation, teamwork, and performance under pressure. The ICPC has played a pivotal role in shaping digital talent, producing over 500,000 programmers and engineers over the past 50 years, many of whom occupy leadership roles in global technology companies.
