The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced significant traffic improvements at the Al Qiyada intersection, enhancing connectivity towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets. These upgrades include the introduction of a new lane and modifications to the intersection and traffic signals, which are expected to enhance vehicle capacity and reduce waiting times by up to 15% during peak hours.
Enhancing Traffic Flow
As part of the upgrades, a new left-turn lane has been added at the Union Street intersection for vehicles heading towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din. This lane takes advantage of adjacent parking spaces and a section of the central island, leading to increased vehicle capacity and improved operational efficiency at the intersection.
Optimising Traffic Signals
The RTA has also recalibrated the traffic light timing to align with the newly established lanes, which aims to better manage traffic flow and facilitate smoother entry and exit to surrounding roads.
Additional Parking and Infrastructure Improvements
To further enhance the area, additional vehicle parking has been created along Abu Hail Street, and lighting fixtures have been installed for existing parking spaces. These measures aim to optimise the use of available space and improve service levels and infrastructure in the vicinity.
Impact on Traffic Dynamics
These improvements are designed to ease vehicle movement across the local road network and the main artery of Union Street, enhancing traffic fluidity at the various access points around the intersection while alleviating congestion during peak periods.
