Dubai Electricity Seeks Collaboration with Chinese Companies to Deploy Storage Batteries in the UAE

Dubai Electricity intends to leverage advanced Chinese innovations in battery storage as part of its strategy to expand clean energy solutions. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, led a high-level delegation to explore opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships with Chinese companies. This initiative aligns with Dubai Electricity’s efforts to achieve its ambitious goals related to renewable energy and the deployment of electricity storage technologies in the UAE.

Enhancing Collaboration in Renewable Energy

The Dubai Electricity delegation’s visit to China focused on strengthening cooperation in the renewable energy sector, according to a statement from the specialized energy platform. This visit presents an opportunity to exchange best global practices in solar energy technologies and electricity storage, supporting Dubai’s clean energy objectives. Dubai Electricity aims to achieve 100% of its energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy.

Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Energy Project

A key component of Dubai Electricity’s strategy is the implementation of the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Energy Complex, which will have a capacity of 2,000 megawatts and a battery storage system with a capacity of 1,400 megawatts for six hours. This project will combine solar energy and electricity storage, making it one of the largest global projects in this field. The new phase is expected to generate approximately 4.5 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually by 2030, significantly contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by around 8 million tons per year.

Leveraging Modern Technologies

Al Tayer emphasized that the visit aims to accelerate the transition in the energy sector and enhance Dubai’s position as a global hub for clean energy and the green economy. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority collaborates with several major Chinese companies in various fields, particularly in renewable energy projects. Al Tayer also visited companies such as Huawei, BYD, and the Tesla factory to explore modern solutions and technologies in solar panels, electricity storage systems, and artificial intelligence.

As Dubai Electricity continues its efforts to collaborate with Chinese companies to deploy storage batteries in the UAE, it firmly establishes its presence on the global clean energy map, reinforcing its position as a key player in this sector. With the ongoing commitment to achieving carbon neutrality goals, these partnerships represent a strategic step toward a more sustainable future.

In this context, the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Energy Complex is expected to propel the emirate towards a low-carbon economy, making it a leader in renewable energy.
