Dubai: “Al Khaleej”
Dubai Customs has announced a significant amendment to its customs procedures regarding cross-border e-commerce. This change is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the business environment, attracting investment, and reducing costs within the e-commerce sector. From 3 August 2026, goods valued at up to AED 1,000 will be exempt from customs duties.
Exemption Details
While this exemption applies broadly, it notably excludes specific products. Tobacco and its derivatives, electronic smoking devices and their accessories, nicotine liquids, alcoholic beverages, and food products containing alcohol will not qualify for this reduction in duties.
Return Policy and Conditions
The amendment also introduces a provision for returned goods. Items returned by companies for personal use will be exempt from customs duties if proof of previous duty payment is provided and the items are returned within 60 days from their initial departure.
Administrative Responsibilities
The Client Happiness Department will oversee the registration of companies and the addition of activities within the customer registration system to facilitate participation in this initiative. Meanwhile, the Legal Affairs Department will handle any disputes arising from the enforcement of these new regulations.
Dubai Customs stresses that this new regulation is effective from 3 August 2026. Companies looking to benefit from these changes are encouraged to take the necessary measures to comply with the updated rules.
