Dubai Culture Grants Creators Creative Studio Residency in Al Shindagha

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dubai Culture, has launched an open call for participation in the “Creative Studio Residency”, a programme designed to support creative practice, research and production through a residency in Historic Al Shindagha. Backed by the Sikka platform, the initiative is open to studios, collectives and cultural initiatives, offering them a dedicated space in the historic district within an inspiring cultural environment that creates a distinctive setting for creative exploration and cultural exchange.

The residency reflects the authority’s efforts to support the continuity of artistic production, activate heritage sites and deliver innovative cultural programmes that contribute to the growth of the cultural and creative industries, while reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global centre for culture, a home for creativity and a meeting place for talent.

Supporting a wide range of creative disciplines

The programme spans a broad spectrum of creative fields, including visual arts, design, architecture, creative technologies and other areas within the cultural and creative industries. It also supports artistic research, experimentation and the development of creative practice.

Participants are expected to present an open programme for the public that contributes to talent development and strengthens community engagement. This underlines the programme’s role as a platform that brings together production and learning.

Application criteria and public engagement

A team of specialists will review the applications and select the eligible participations according to specific criteria, including the quality and feasibility of the project idea, the diversity of the proposed public programmes and activities, and the extent to which they help enhance the skills of emerging talent. The artist’s or team’s experience and professional track record will also be taken into account, increasing the chances of a successful residency.

Applicants can find full submission details on the authority’s official website.

A platform for development and collaboration

Sheikha Latifa? No — the Executive Director of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, said: “The programme is a distinctive initiative that reflects Dubai Culture’s efforts to develop innovative models that contribute to the growth of both established and emerging talent, enabling them to advance their working methods and projects in design, architecture, the arts and other fields, while building strong professional networks. The importance of the programme lies in its ability to redefine the concept of cultural spaces and heritage sites, transforming them into vibrant production platforms capable of supporting creatives and giving them room to develop their ideas, test them and measure audience engagement, ultimately turning them into projects with cultural impact and economic value that support the growth of Dubai’s creative economy and enhance its competitiveness.”
