Diriyah Secures $5 Billion in Contracts to Boost 2025 Tourism

Diriyah is witnessing a remarkable transformation as it gears up to welcome over 3.6 million visitors by mid-2025. This increase highlights the area’s growing appeal as a vibrant global destination, particularly following the launch of the Bujairi Terrace and the historic At Turaif District in December 2022. The recent awarding of $5 billion in contracts signifies the ambitious development plans underway, all poised to solidify Diriyah’s status in alignment with Saudi Arabia‘s Vision 2030.

Ambitious Growth Targets

Diriyah is firmly on track to achieve its goal of 50 million annual visits by 2030. This ambition aligns perfectly with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 initiative, aimed at diversifying the economy and boosting tourism. The region’s rich cultural heritage and strategic development projects are central to this growth strategy.

Substantial Contract Awards in 2025

In the first half of 2025, Diriyah announced an impressive total of SR18.75 billion ($5 billion) in contracts across 15 major agreements. This underscores the accelerating pace of development in the area, with several significant projects underway:

  • Power Stations: SR1.166 billion ($311 million) for the construction of two new main power stations.
  • Royal Diriyah Opera House: SR5.1 billion ($1.36 billion) joint venture with ESEC, Midmac Construction, and CSCEC to create a flagship performing arts venue, which will host the New York Metropolitan Opera during the winter season.

  • Diriyah Arena: SR5.75 billion ($1.53 billion) awarded to the China Harbour Engineering Company for constructing a 20,000-seat venue, catering to concerts, sports events, esports, and exhibitions.

Enhancing Global Presence

In 2025, Diriyah has successfully elevated its global profile, connecting with over 25,000 visitors at key international forums such as ITB Berlin, ATM Dubai, ITB China, and ILTM Asia Pacific. The city also hosted engagements in cities like Paris, Rome, and London, which included a pop-up at Harrods and the opening of the Diriyah House Experience Center at One Hyde Park, London.

In January, Diriyah Company marked its presence at the World Economic Forum in Davos, subsequently promoting its projects at MIPIM in Cannes. TIME Magazine recognized Diriyah Company as one of the 100 Most Influential Companies in the World, placing it alongside Aramco as only one of two Saudi firms to receive such an honor.

Commitment to Sustainability and Local Talent

Diriyah is investing in local talent through programs like the Graduate Development Program and the Engineers Development Program, alongside launching initiatives to build a Smart City. The city also introduced Diriyah Tan, a signature Pantone shade inspired by its historic Najdi mud-brick architecture.

Highlighting cultural initiatives, HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed former U.S. President Donald Trump to Diriyah, making history with a visit to the UNESCO-listed At-Turaif District. Diriyah FC’s success in winning the Saudi Second Division League title further showcases the city’s vitality.

In 2025, Diriyah garnered accolades such as the Best Sustainable Tourism Development Project Award and the Excellence in Sustainability Award. Additionally, the Wadi Safar project achieved three Mostadam sustainability certifications, reflecting a commitment to robust environmental practices.

With established landmarks like Bujairi Terrace, Wadi Hanifah, and Zallal featured in the global edition of Monopoly, Diriyah’s cultural significance continues to thrive. By 2030, Diriyah’s developments are projected to contribute over SR70 billion ($18.7 billion) annually to Saudi Arabia’s GDP and create 180,000 jobs, clearly cementing its role as a cultural, tourism, and economic powerhouse.
