The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is making strides towards exporting its successful operational model and advanced expertise to global markets through its fully-owned subsidiary, DEWA Global. A high-level delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA and Chairman of DEWA Global, recently engaged in extensive discussions in Paris with leaders from major international companies such as EDF, Engie, and TotalEnergies. The focus of these talks was to explore avenues for developing energy and water projects on a global scale.
Strengthening Global Collaborations
Al Tayer emphasised that this visit is part of an overarching strategy to reaffirm Dubai’s status as a global hub and to foster collaborative initiatives between DEWA Global and leading companies in the energy and water sectors. By doing so, the aim is to develop projects in vital areas including renewable and clean energy, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and advanced water desalination technologies. The discussions also highlighted the latest innovations and technologies employed in both conventional and clean energy projects.
A Model for Sustainable Development
Al Tayer described DEWA’s operations as a testament to Dubai’s inspiring success story. Over the years, the entity has played a pivotal role in transforming Dubai into a global capital for economy, trade, and innovation, serving as a pioneering model for sustainable development, guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. He noted that DEWA has significantly contributed to Dubai’s extraordinary growth trajectory.
Launching DEWA Global
DEWA Global was recently established with the objective of expanding DEWA’s successful operational model into international markets. This subsidiary will leverage DEWA’s strengths in project development, financing, technology, digital innovation, project management, and operations to create, fund, develop, and manage energy and water projects worldwide. The company’s portfolio is diverse, encompassing conventional and renewable energy, energy storage, grid flexibility solutions, and integrated energy and water projects. It aims not only to provide infrastructure projects but also to export the proven expertise of DEWA in project structuring, governance, risk management, execution, and operational excellence to international markets.
Building Strategic Partnerships
Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA Global will forge partnerships with governments, developers, and financial institutions to co-develop and invest in infrastructure projects. DEWA’s expertise spans the entire energy value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and advanced clean energy technologies such as photovoltaic solar, concentrated solar power, green hydrogen, hydropower, and green data centres.
An Ecosystem for Innovation
Al Tayer stressed that DEWA operates within a dynamic and integrated economic ecosystem that supports innovation, investment, and sustainable growth. This progress is fuelled by advancements in artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution, which reinforces Dubai’s position as a global centre for capital, talent, and strategic partnerships. He reiterated that the journey towards excellence is ongoing, and that DEWA Global strives to become a prominent success story on an international scale.
