Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Supreme Consumer Protection Committee, conducted a field tour of the fruit and vegetable market in Al Ain. The purpose of the tour was to assess the availability of food goods at fair prices and to ensure compliance with sound business practices. Al Marri stated that the daily import movement of food goods in the market is proceeding normally, with sufficient quantities available in warehouses and on shelves, and there are no signs of shortages or disruptions in the supply process.
Al Marri added that these efforts reflect the readiness of supply chains and the efficiency of strategic stockpiling across various markets in the country. He urged consumers to purchase based on need and avoid waste, which contributes to stabilizing prices and ensuring the availability of goods for everyone.
Improving the Food Supply Network
Commenting on the current situation, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri noted that the UAE enjoys a developed infrastructure and logistics network. This network has contributed to strengthening the protection of supply chains for essential goods, particularly food and medical supplies. Alternative routes have been activated, and the strategic stockpiling system has been developed, enabling the UAE to efficiently redirect supplies.
Market Oversight and Inspections
The Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in collaboration with local authorities, is monitoring stock levels and the availability of goods on a daily basis. The ministry focuses its efforts on ensuring that suppliers and retail outlets comply with consumer protection policies. Approximately 12,284 inspection tours have been conducted since the onset of the crisis, during which 249 violations related to unjustified price increases were recorded.
The ministry emphasizes that any violations affecting the availability of goods or consumer rights will be addressed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including the imposition of appropriate penalties. These efforts aim to enhance market stability and ensure consumer rights.
