Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the first edition of the Al Ain Equine Festival is set to kick off tomorrow, Friday, at Al Mubazzarah Al Khadra. Running until March 8, the festival embodies the deep-rooted position of equine sports within Emirati culture, highlighting their integral role in the nation’s heritage and identity. The Al Ain Equine Festival features two major competitions: the International Shiraa Championship for Arabian Horse Beauty and the Shiraa Show Jumping Championship, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in the equestrian arena.
Commencement of the Festival
The festival will debut with the International Shiraa Championship for Arabian Horse Beauty, which will be held over three days starting Friday. Organized by the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, this prestigious event will see the participation of 266 horses from pure Arabian bloodlines, including 27 horses from abroad. It will showcase the involvement of 157 local owners and 22 international participants, highlighting the growing global presence of the championship on the international beauty competition map.
Standards and Competitions
The International Shiraa Championship is rated ‘A’ according to ECAHO regulations and will feature qualifying rounds for both male and female categories, alongside six gold championships. This reflects the high artistic standards and professional organization that accompany the UAE’s leadership in nurturing and preserving pure Arabian horse breeds.
Show Jumping Highlights
Additionally, the Shiraa Show Jumping Championship will commence on Wednesday, March 4, and conclude on Sunday, March 8. Rated as a two-star event, it will host 400 horses representing 250 different owners, adding a significant dynamic to the festival’s agenda while enhancing the visibility of show jumping in the UAE. The nation’s reinforcement as a regional and international hub for equestrian sports is well established through these initiatives.
