Enhancing AI Cultural Diversity via Japans Bridge Seminars

The recently held “Bridge” events in Osaka, Japan, highlighted the intricate relationships among cultural diversity, geography, and artificial intelligence in the media landscape. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between nations while preparing for the upcoming Bridge Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

As part of a series of international dialogues aimed at laying the foundations for the future of media and technology and enhancing cultural cooperation among nations, the “Bridge” tour—one of the main paths of the global Bridge initiative launched by the National Media Office—reached Osaka, Japan. This marks its third stop after New York and London, in preparation for the Bridge Summit 2025, set to take place in the UAE capital from December 8 to 10.

Bridge is the largest global platform that brings together leaders and creators from the media, cultural, and artistic sectors, along with decision-makers, to enable more effective and integrated communication worldwide. Each stop on the tour enriches the “Dialogue Continuum,” a series of discussions and global insights that shape the summit’s agenda.

The Osaka stop, following notable successes in New York and London, underscores the platform’s global dimension and its commitment to cultural and geographical diversity in addressing modern media challenges and building effective partnerships among various stakeholders in the global media ecosystem.

Osaka: A Platform for Innovation and Cultural Engagement

As the host city for Expo 2025, Osaka serves as an ideal platform for Bridge to focus on the intersection of enduring human values and future technologies. The event featured dialogue sessions that brought together over 30 prominent Japanese leaders and influencers from the fields of media, technology, and finance, including Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Batti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, and Shihab Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Faheem, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Japan.

The program in Osaka began with a dialogue titled “Who Benefits from the Trust Crisis?” featuring Rika Kihara, Senior Policy Reporter at Reuters Japan, and Wendy Seo, Senior Vice President at WPP Media Japan. The session discussed ways to build a media environment based on trust during a time when doubts about content credibility are increasing, and algorithms significantly influence user behavior and public opinion.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Perception

In an in-depth session titled “Thinking Minds, Feeling Minds: The Next Frontier of Artificial Intelligence,” Dr. Hiro Hamada, Head of Research at ARAYA, presented an advanced perspective based on the intersections of neuroscience and machine learning. He explained how artificial intelligence is reshaping human perception and its impact on consciousness, trust, and human agency in a world where attention has become a rare commodity and narrative is a tool of power.

The program concluded with interactive sessions that allowed participants to engage directly with senior executives in the media sector, cultural producers, and policymakers in open discussions that highlighted Japan’s pioneering experiences in developing responsible media practices based on innovation and the integration of technology with human values.

Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Batti Al Hamed emphasized that the UAE seeks to build a new media model characterized by flexibility, transparency, and effectiveness, elevating human values. He noted that wise leadership supports quality media initiatives, foremost among them the Bridge Summit, based on a belief in the role of media as a vital partner in building bridges of communication between peoples and empowering communities to shape their future on the foundations of awareness, openness, and responsibility.

Envisioning the Future of Media

He added that the Osaka sessions highlighted the importance of combining innovation with foundational principles and adopting artificial intelligence tools without abandoning professional ethics. He pointed out that the Bridge Summit 2025 will focus on launching strategic partnerships that establish media as a driving force for development and prosperity.

Dr. Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Director General of the National Media Office, affirmed that the world stands at a critical crossroads today, given the rapid transformations in the media and cultural content industry, all driven by developments in artificial intelligence and the changing nature of digital platforms.

Al Kaabi stated, “In this changing context, the importance of responsible storytelling emerges as a pivotal tool in shaping the future. Here lies the role of Bridge, where we seek to unite the efforts of stakeholders in the media content industry worldwide, who share a common goal centered around trust, transparency, and positive impact.”

He added that at the Bridge Summit, ideas intersect with aspirations to address the challenges of the age and build responsible media that offers practical solutions, enhancing human communication and reinforcing ethical values in a renewed and multidimensional media environment.

Bridge Tour Stops: Global Diversity in a Unified Context

The discussions in New York focused on the future of trust in artificial intelligence and its role in verifying information, while the dialogues in London explored the concept of “storytelling diplomacy” and ways for governments to collaborate with media institutions to promote responsible narratives. Osaka highlighted the status of the creative economy in Asia and emphasized the importance of the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence, achieving a balance between technological innovation and cultural authenticity.

In this context, the Osaka meeting served as a strategic step within a continuous global tour aimed at building a new media model based on transparency and responsibility, enriching the “Dialogue Continuum” with quality ideas and insights. It provided a platform to expand discussions about the future of media, from content credibility to the role of artificial intelligence tools in reshaping the journalistic, economic, and cultural landscape. The tour is set to continue in its upcoming stops in Shanghai and other global cities, addressing key topics such as artificial intelligence, cross-cultural storytelling, and new collaboration models in the digital age, leading up to the Bridge Summit in December.
