Recently, a significant event unfolded as Arab participants traveled to China to explore Chinese theater techniques. This initiative, centered around the 13th Chinese-Arab training course on scenography and theatrical techniques, aims to foster cultural exchange and collaboration between China and Arab countries. With over 20 trainees from seven Arab nations, including the UAE, Qatar, and Morocco, this program showcases a commitment to enhancing the artistic landscape through shared knowledge and innovation.
Opening of the Training Course
On Wednesday, this pivotal training course commenced in Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China. The event marks a crucial step in integrating modern achievements in Chinese theater techniques into the broader Arab artistic community. Over the course of 11 days, participants will also engage in activities in Guangzhou, further enriching their learning experiences.
Diverse Specializations
The Arab participants come from various backgrounds in theater techniques, covering areas such as playwriting, lighting, sound, and theater management. This diversity ensures a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in theatrical production, contributing to a richer cultural dialogue. As they immerse themselves in these disciplines, the trainees are poised to gain invaluable skills that they can bring back to their respective countries.
Expert Guidance and Practical Experience
According to Yi Yuying, the president of the Yinchuan Theater Arts Association, the training program features a lineup of esteemed local experts who will facilitate the sessions. Attendees will partake in theoretical training, practical exercises, and result presentations. Additionally, they will visit the 24th International Guangzhou Professional Lighting and Sound Equipment Exhibition, providing them with the opportunity to interact with manufacturers and explore the latest advancements in theater technology in China.
Strengthening Cultural Ties
This training initiative serves as one of the primary projects under the China-Arab Cooperation Forum. Its goal is to deepen exchanges and mutual learning between China and Arab nations in theater techniques, lighting, sound, and state-of-the-art equipment. By showcasing China’s technological achievements in theater, the program aspires to enhance cultural ties between the two regions.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has included this training course as part of the events leading up to the sixth Arab Arts Festival, scheduled to take place in China in 2026. Since its inception in 2012, this training program has successfully equipped nearly a thousand specialized technicians from Arab nations, resulting in over $10 million in theater equipment trade agreements between China and the Arab world.
