As part of its ongoing role as a strategic partner of Al Hamriyah Cultural Sports Club, Al Hamriyah Municipality has reinforced its commitment to promoting health awareness and quality of life through an educational and recreational workshop focused on protecting the eyes from the sun’s rays.
Organised by the Institutional Interaction Department, the workshop, titled “زين نظارتك… واحمِ عينيك”, was held with the wide participation of members of the Sharjah Summer Sports Programme “Our Unusual Holiday”, which is run by Al Hamriyah Club under the supervision of the Sharjah Sports Council.
Health awareness through creative activities
The workshop was designed as part of the municipality’s efforts to use creative activities to embed healthy concepts among children and young people. By combining awareness with entertainment, the initiative sought to build positive behaviours that participants can carry into their daily lives.
During the session, participants received a simplified explanation of the risks associated with direct exposure to sunlight, as well as the importance of following preventive guidance during the summer months. The workshop also highlighted the role of sunglasses in protecting the eyes from ultraviolet rays and their harmful effects.
Interactive activity engages participants
The event also included a practical, interactive activity in which participants decorated their sunglasses using a variety of materials and colours. The lively atmosphere and high level of enthusiasm helped turn health messages into an enjoyable learning experience, strengthening participants’ understanding of the importance of prevention and eye care.
The workshop drew strong engagement from children and teenagers, who showed notable interest in the hands-on activities. Under the supervision of the Institutional Interaction Department team, information was delivered in innovative ways suited to the target age groups and supportive of the programme’s aim of making good use of the summer break in ways that benefit participants.

His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, said the municipality’s participation as a strategic partner in “Our Unusual Holiday” stems from its belief in the importance of coordination between government entities in delivering quality initiatives for young people, helping to build a generation that is aware, cultured and positive in its behaviour.
Al Shamsi added that the municipality will continue to implement a range of awareness initiatives and programmes throughout the duration of the programme, reflecting its mission to enhance community awareness, strengthen institutional partnership and support initiatives that contribute to human development, in line with Sharjah’s vision of investing in people and shaping aware and creative generations.
