The development plans for the Al Rawdah Economic Zone in Oman are gaining momentum, driven by a partnership between Dubai Ports World (DP World) and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones in Oman. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the region’s economic landscape by creating a hub for trade and industrial cooperation. We will delve into how fast-tracking the Al Rawdah Economic Zone’s development is poised to revolutionize the economic dynamics of the region.
Progress Overview
Senior officials from Oman and DP World recently convened to discuss the rapid advancements in the development of the Al Rawdah Economic Zone. During this meeting, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, the head of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, welcomed Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the Chairman and CEO of DP World, alongside representatives from both entities. The discussions primarily focused on recent accomplishments and the next phases of this strategic project.
Project Specifications
The roadmap for the first phase of development and operations was a key topic of discussion. Spanning an initial area of 14 square kilometers designated for development, the zone is strategically planned to allow for an expansion to 24 square kilometers in subsequent phases. This flexibility is designed to meet the anticipated demand from investors and support long-term growth objectives. The project development agreement was signed on May 26, 2025, marking a significant milestone in realizing the vision for the Al Rawdah Economic Zone.
Strategic Location
Situated in the Wilayat of Mahdah, the Al Rawdah Economic Zone enjoys a prime geographic position along vital regional trade corridors. It is approximately 85 kilometers from Al Buraimi and 125 kilometers from the Wilayat of Sohar, positioning it as a gateway for trade and industrial collaboration between Oman and the United Arab Emirates. This strategic location further enhances its potential to attract high-value investments in logistics, light manufacturing, and industrial services.
Future Investment Opportunities
Officials anticipate that the project will draw substantial investments across various sectors, particularly in logistics and light manufacturing. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem emphasized, “The Al Rawdah Economic Zone represents a strategic platform for enabling trade, industrial growth, and regional connectivity between Oman and the UAE. DP World is committed to developing this zone in collaboration with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), leveraging our global expertise in logistics and economic zone development.”
As the plans for the Al Rawdah Economic Zone progress, it stands poised to not only reshape the local economy but also strengthen cross-border collaborations, further integrating Oman into the regional trade landscape.
