Abu Dhabi Welcomes 5.4 Million Hotel Guests in 11 Months

In a significant achievement for the hospitality sector, Abu Dhabi welcomed 5.4 million guests to its hotels over 11 months last year, reflecting a robust tourism industry. The data, released by the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center and based on figures from the Department of Culture and Tourism, highlights the emirate’s growing appeal as a premier travel destination. Throughout this period, the total revenue from hotel accommodations reached an impressive 7.83 billion dirhams, underscoring the economic vitality and attractiveness of Abu Dhabi.

Strong Occupancy Rates

According to the analysis, hotels in the emirate recorded an average occupancy rate of 81.2% over the 11 months. Notably, November stood out as the month with the highest occupancy, reaching 90%. This surge indicates a positive trend in visitor engagement and hotel performance during the peak season.

November Performance Highlights

In November alone, the hotels hosted 467,000 guests, achieving an occupancy rate of 90%. This month also generated hotel revenues of 1.1 billion dirhams, marking the highest monthly earnings since the start of 2025. Additionally, guests enjoyed an average stay of 3.1 nights, reflecting the emirate’s allure as a destination for longer visits.

Expanding Hotel Capacity

As of last November, Abu Dhabi boasted 172 hotel establishments, offering a total capacity of 34,551 rooms. The analysis of occupancy rates revealed particularly strong performance in the Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions, with occupancy rates of 82% and 79%, respectively, in November. This growth reflects ongoing investments in the tourism sector and the emirate’s commitment to enhancing its hospitality infrastructure.

International Visitor Trends

The composition of international visitors during November showcased a diverse influx of tourists. Asian markets (excluding Arab countries) topped the list with 146,000 guests, followed closely by European travelers at 144,000. Meanwhile, Arab nations contributed 45,000 visitors, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries accounted for another 31,000. Notably, the local market also displayed strong contributions with 49,000 resident guests.

Reflecting on the year-to-date performance, hotels in Abu Dhabi welcomed 542,000 guests in January, generating 828 million dirhams in revenue, while February saw 462,000 guests and revenues of 859 million dirhams. This upward trajectory continued each month, reinforcing the emirate’s strategic objective of becoming a leading global tourism hub.

The tourism strategy for Abu Dhabi 2030 aims to boost visitor numbers to 39.3 million, further enhancing the sector’s contribution to the emirate’s GDP to approximately 90 billion dirhams. The performance of hotels, with 5.4 million guests welcomed over 11 months, sets a promising foundation for these ambitious targets.
