On Wednesday, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority unveiled a new generation of specialised smart ambulance vehicles tailored to meet diverse medical needs. These include mobile units for critical care, maternal and infant emergencies, and equipment specifically designed for patients with obesity.
The launch event featured the participation of Dr. Noura Khamees Al-Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health, and Major General Salem Abdullah Bin Barak Al-Dhaheri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. They examined the new vehicles as well as the Unified Medical Operations Command Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Rashid Obaid Al-Suwaidi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, stated that the new ambulances extend specialised care directly to the patient’s location, allowing for quicker, safer interventions and enhancing the quality and continuity of patient care.
During his address at the launch, Major General Al-Dhaheri emphasised that human safety is at the heart of development and that protecting lives demands the utmost preparedness, rapid response, and the integration of advanced technologies. He also noted that in emergencies, the significance of time is measured not just in minutes but in precious seconds that can make a critical difference.
He indicated that the introduction of this new generation of specialised smart ambulances exemplifies effective institutional collaboration between the Department of Health and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. This initiative marks a significant advancement in enhancing emergency response capabilities within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, bringing advanced healthcare nearer to the community and better aligning with their needs and aspirations.
Furthermore, the addition of 18 new ambulances to the Unified Medical Operations Command Centre not only expands capabilities but also signifies a qualitative leap in emergency response. The focus has shifted from merely reaching the patient quickly to providing specialised care from the very first moments.
