Abu Dhabi Police Warn: Never Leave Your Vehicle Running

The Abu Dhabi Police Directorate of Traffic and Patrols has issued a stern warning to drivers regarding the dangers of leaving their vehicles running while they shop, fuel up, or attend to other activities. This careless behaviour could potentially lead to vehicle fires or theft by opportunistic individuals.

Safety Concerns Surrounding Leaving Vehicles Running

The police have specifically cautioned against the negligence of leaving car keys inside vehicles while parked at home or while in operation. Alarmingly, they noted that some drivers, particularly those with infants, have left their children in running cars unattended.

Regulations for Safe Parking

According to Article 5 of Clause 4 of the Traffic and Road Safety Regulations, drivers are prohibited from parking their vehicles in designated no-parking zones. In instances where stopping on the road is necessary, drivers must take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of road traffic, including securing their vehicle and ensuring the engine is turned off during their absence.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Moreover, Article 70 of the Federal Traffic and Road Safety Law establishes a fine of 500 dirhams for drivers who fail to comply with traffic signs and guidelines.

As such, the Abu Dhabi Police urge all motorists to prioritise vehicle safety and heed the traffic regulations to prevent potential hazards on the roads.
