The Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing the measurement of digital economic activities, providing a clearer understanding of the contributions of technology, artificial intelligence, and digital business models to the economy of Abu Dhabi.
Objectives of the Digital Economy Survey
This survey targets enterprises operating in key areas of the digital economy, including e-commerce, digital platforms, fintech and digital financial services, software and cloud services, transportation and delivery platforms, data services, and digital infrastructure.
Data Collection and Economic Insights
The survey will collect data on digital revenues, the usage of emerging technologies, and the role of digital business models in economic activities. This will aid in establishing a statistical reference for more accurately tracking the progression of the digital economy in Abu Dhabi.
Supporting Economic Strategy
Abdullah Gharib Al Qamzi, Director General of the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, remarked, “The Digital Economy Survey is part of the Centre’s efforts to develop the measurement framework for the economy in Abu Dhabi, complementing the comprehensive review project of the emirate’s GDP time series announced in May 2026. This survey will provide data that outlines the role of digital activities in the economy of the emirate and supports the development of official statistics that keep pace with economic transformations, meeting the needs of decision-makers.”
Alignment with National Goals
Additionally, the Digital Economy Survey supports the national strategy for the digital economy in the UAE, which aims to increase the contribution of the digital economy to the country’s GDP from 9.7% in 2022 to 19.4% over the next decade.
Enhancing Economic Statistics in Abu Dhabi
Results from the survey will bolster the official economic statistics system in Abu Dhabi, providing a stronger foundation of data and statistical evidence to support economic diversification, competitiveness, investment, and sustainable growth.
