Abu Dhabi Book Fair Celebrates 35th Journey with Music

In a remarkable fusion of art, music, and literature, the 35th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, transformed into a vibrant platform celebrating creativity and knowledge from 13th to 18th of this month. The event became a stage where various art forms converged, bringing the world together in a shared passion for creative beauty. While literature guided the mind to realms of contemplation, the delicate notes of music infused the narratives with warmth and human depth, enhancing cultural awareness and creating an emotive reading experience, thanks to artists who roamed the exhibition halls with melodies that eloquently conveyed the rich tapestry of human emotions without the need for words.

A Cultural Carnival of Music and Knowledge

The exhibition recently concluded its six-day vibrant programme, welcoming guests daily with a lively cultural music carnival. The music performances flowed seamlessly like joyful veins, infusing the hallways with melodies and interactive musical displays that invigorated readers and book lovers throughout the event. The enchanting sounds of both Eastern and Western instruments engaged in a civilised dialogue; the strings of the oud, qanun, and violin evoked a sense of heritage, while the piano imparted a unique brilliance.

Notably, 15-year-old pianist Rashid Al Mazrouei entranced visitors in a dedicated corner with a varied selection of global melodies. The musical experiences extended beyond solo performances to include rich representations of authentic Emirati heritage, showcased by the Al Ayala troupe. Their performances reflected values of tradition and pride, complemented by the dynamic and disciplined presentation of the Abu Dhabi Police Musical Band, creating an exquisite blend of visual and auditory harmony that drew admiration from attendees.

A Night of Musical Heritage

On the main stage, creativity reached new heights through a programme that celebrated a diverse array of musical evenings, artfully blending timeless Arabic compositions with contemporary and global influences. The ‘Emirati Song Choir’ opened the festival with an inspiring performance that brought to life the poetry of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, with students from the ‘My Talent’ programme validating the role of art in preserving identity.

A stirring journey awaited audiences during the evening titled “Your Voice Never Fades,” which paid tribute to the legacy of the late Bahraini artist Salman Ziman, under the vision of musician Khalifa Ziman. This was complemented by another evening called “Imagining,” celebrating the poet Fathiyeh Ajlan.

Cementing the Arabic Language’s Status

The artistic brilliance of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair crowned the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, which views support for local and international arts as fundamental to enhancing civil dialogue and establishing the stature of the Arabic language. By presenting these art forms in an engaging and innovative manner during the fair’s 35th edition, the centre succeeded in offering a comprehensive cultural and artistic experience, reaffirming to the world that Abu Dhabi is a capital dedicated to knowledge production, nurturing creativity, and creating lasting bridges for human communication through art and literature.
