Sharjah’s Electricity, Water and Gas Authority continues to enhance its infrastructure and improve network efficiency as part of its ongoing commitment to digital transformation. During the third quarter of 2026, the authority’s Electricity Distribution Division successfully installed over 3,200 new electricity meters to meet the rising energy demand driven by increasing urban and residential development in Sharjah. Furthermore, the initiative involved the replacement of 1,600 old mechanical meters with modern, high-precision smart meters. This upgrade significantly enhances measurement efficiency and improves the overall customer experience by providing more accurate and reliable readings.
Modernisation of Infrastructure and Services
In addition to the installation of new meters, the authority has advanced its digital infrastructure through extensive upgrades to its Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The completion of updates on 9,337 projects not only assists in the precise planning of network paths but also accelerates maintenance operations and enhances the responsiveness of field teams to service requests. The authority has been able to deliver over 7,459 logistical support services for these projects, underscoring its dedication to efficiency and customer service.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
According to Ahmed Al Bass, Deputy Manager of the Electricity Distribution Department, these initiatives are aligned with the authority’s comprehensive strategy to bolster infrastructure efficiency by leveraging the latest available technologies. He stated, “These steps are part of our overarching strategy to enhance infrastructure efficiency and ensure more effective resource management, offering comprehensive and sustainable services that meet the expectations of our customers and keep pace with ongoing urban expansion.”
As Sharjah continues to grow, the authority remains focused on utilising innovative solutions to ensure that the electricity distribution network meets the needs of a rapidly developing city, thereby contributing to a sustainable future for its residents.
