Gargash Critiques Qalibaf’s Bias in Lana Nassibah’s Nomination

In a recent statement on the social media platform “X,” Dr Anwar Gargash, the Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the UAE, underscored the importance of constructive dialogue regarding the nomination of Lana Nusseibah for a prominent international position. He expressed that such discussions are not only valid but also welcomed, particularly when they address the credentials and vision of Nusseibah, who is recognised for her ability to bridge divides and prioritise diplomacy.

Response to Criticism from Iran

However, Gargash noted that the nomination of a seasoned professional like Nusseibah is inevitably met with resistance from more hardline voices, pointing out that the proposal put forth by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, lacks objectivity. He reminded audiences that the United Nations was established to promote dialogue and conflict resolution, rather than to perpetuate animosities or settle scores.

A Hope for Constructive Engagement

Concluding his remarks, Gargash emphasised his hope that Ghalibaf’s comments were merely the result of an effort by the social media account manager and not an accurate reflection of his personal views. This distinction highlights the need for thoughtful engagement in international discussions, especially in the context of diplomatic nominations.
