Sharjah Chamber Aims to Strengthen Economic Ties with Bangladesh

Sharjah 24:

On Monday, Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed His Excellency Tariq Ahmed, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the UAE, along with his accompanying delegation, at the chamber’s headquarters. The meeting was also attended by Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General for Communication and Business Sector at the Sharjah Chamber, as well as various officials from both sides.

During the meeting, Al Owais received an invitation for the Sharjah Chamber to participate, accompanied by an official delegation, in the Global Sourcing Expo 2026, set to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, next November. This expo serves as a significant platform for enhancing communication between businesses and exploring opportunities for commercial and industrial cooperation. Participation will allow Sharjah companies to gain direct insight into investment opportunities in Bangladesh while also familiarising themselves with the capabilities of Bangladeshi suppliers and manufacturers.

Expanding Economic Partnerships and Ongoing Cooperation

Al Owais expressed his welcome to the Bangladeshi ambassador and his delegation, emphasising the importance of Bangladesh as a key economic partner in South Asia. He noted that the memorandum of understanding signed with its counterpart in Dhaka last year laid a groundwork for enhancing business communication and exchanging information regarding available opportunities. He highlighted that the next phase demands translating this framework into tangible initiatives and projects that will positively impact the business communities of both nations.

Moreover, Al Owais stated that economic relations between Sharjah and Bangladesh are on an upward trajectory, pointing out that the emirate boasts advanced infrastructure, a strategic location connecting global markets, and offers incentives and facilities within a supportive legislative framework that sustains business operations. This makes Sharjah an ideal platform for Bangladeshi companies looking to expand into regional markets. He reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to provide all necessary facilities and support services to enable these businesses to thrive in the emirate.

Enhancing the Business Environment and Supporting Investors

The Bangladeshi embassy delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception, appreciating the proactive role that the Sharjah Chamber plays in enhancing the business environment and supporting investors while developing bilateral relations. The delegation reiterated Bangladesh’s eagerness to deepen this relationship and broaden its horizons. Additionally, they conveyed the interest of the private sector in Bangladesh to attract investors and businesspeople from Sharjah, directing investments towards strategic sectors, particularly in pharmaceuticals, jute production, port management, and infrastructure projects, alongside various manufacturing sectors. These fields are considered crucial pillars in Bangladesh’s economic development journey.

Invitation to Visit Sharjah Exhibitions

The chamber extended an invitation to the Bangladeshi ambassador to visit the specialised exhibitions organised and hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, which actively feature a number of Bangladeshi companies, manufacturers, and exhibitors. The chamber illustrated that the annual agenda of exhibitions in the emirate provides effective platforms for promoting products and services, opening new avenues for Bangladeshi goods in regional markets, in alignment with the stipulations of the memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade exhibitions.

Furthermore, the promising investment sectors between Sharjah and Bangladesh align with the areas discussed during the working meeting that led to the signing of the memorandum of understanding. The Sharjah Chamber is focused on facilitating cooperation between the business communities in the emirate and their Bangladeshi counterparts in shipping, export, and logistics services. Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi side expressed interest in e-commerce, medical services, and food industries, which expands the range of opportunities available for the business sectors in both Sharjah and Bangladesh.

In conclusion, both parties underscored the importance of continuing joint coordination and exchanging visits between the Sharjah Chamber and the embassy. They aim to facilitate trade and investment flows and to participate in trade exhibitions, thereby enhancing the volume of trade exchange and solidifying the economic partnership between the UAE and Bangladesh.
