The governments of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Arab Republic of Egypt have announced the extension of their strategic partnership in government modernization for an additional five years, continuing until 2031. This initiative aims to broaden the scope for the exchange of experiences and government practices, enhance services, build capabilities, and improve the readiness of government operations for the future.
Official Signing During Government Delegation Visit
This significant agreement was formalised during an official visit by a government delegation from Egypt to the UAE. The Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the UAE, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Tawfik Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Egypt, signed the extension of the strategic partnership in government modernization.
A New Phase of Cooperation
The agreement represents a new phase in cooperation, building upon a partnership that began in February 2018. This collaboration has already yielded significant results in government services, excellence, capacity building, government accelerators, and competitiveness.
Reaffirmation of Strong Ties
Mohammed Al Gergawi highlighted that the relationship between the UAE and Egypt exemplifies a deep-rooted model of fraternity, cooperation, and partnership, under the stewardship of the leaders of both nations. He noted that the partnership in government modernization translates the depth of these relations into practical initiatives and projects that benefit developmental efforts and enhance people’s lives.
He remarked, “Government partnerships accelerate development and create an impact on people’s lives. The collaboration between the UAE and Egypt is a promising model for cooperation, experience exchange, and readiness for the future.”
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Tawfik Rostom emphasised the importance of the enduring economic and developmental ties between Egypt and the UAE, along with their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in government work. This includes reinforcing governance principles, empowering human resources, and building institutional capacities, ultimately improving service quality and contributing to sustainable development goals.
He further added that extending the partnership until 2031 solidifies the path of cooperation and builds on previous successes. The ‘Egypt Award for Government Excellence’, inspired by the UAE’s governmental excellence framework, illustrates this partnership in action, receiving over 10,000 nominations and involving more than 600 evaluators from both countries across five cycles. The collaboration has additionally facilitated the capacity building of over 16,000 government leaders and employees through more than 1,500 specialized workshops focused on institutional performance improvement, government services, excellence, innovation, and the acceleration of government achievements.
Strategic Partnership History
The strategic partnership in government modernization between the two countries commenced in February 2018, focusing on five key areas: government services, governmental excellence, capacity building, governmental accelerators, and government competitiveness.
Over the past eight years, this partnership has yielded numerous results and joint initiatives, notably the establishment of 17 fixed and mobile government service centres in Egypt, drawing inspiration from the UAE’s model. Furthermore, it has successfully launched the ‘Egypt Award for Government Excellence’, with significant participation and evaluation efforts contributing to a cultural shift towards excellence within the government sector.
