Driver Fined 4000 Dirhams for Violation – Shocking Penalty!

In a recent ruling, a Dubai traffic court imposed a fine of 4,000 dirhams on a motorcycle rider for his negligence that led to an accident. Following an investigation, it surfaced that the rider was operating a vehicle with both an expired licence and insurance, transforming what began as a simple traffic incident into multiple legal infractions.

The Incident Unfolds

The case began with a report received by the operations room about a motorcycle veering off course. A traffic patrol was dispatched to the scene, where they conducted an inspection and drafted a schematic of the incident. The findings revealed that the rider lost control of the motorcycle due to a sudden deviation and a lack of attention while driving, resulting in moderate injuries to the rider, along with significant damage to the motorcycle.

Investigation and Findings

Further investigations revealed that the rider’s errors extended beyond mere control issues; both the motorcycle licence and insurance documents had expired just days prior to the incident. Consequently, the rider faced three charges: careless driving, causing damage to another’s property, and operating an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle on a public road.

Court Proceedings and Ruling

The court noted that the evidence presented was comprehensive and cohesive, starting from the report and inspection details, to the schematic representation of the accident site, and concluding with the defendant’s admissions made first to the police and later in court. The court affirmed that the rider’s negligence, in conjunction with the expired motorcycle licence and insurance at the time of the accident, substantiated all three charges against him. The defendant did not contest the facts presented but requested leniency from the court.

Penalty Imposed

Taking the circumstances of the case into account, the court decided to exercise some mercy. The rider was fined 3,000 dirhams for the charges of careless driving and causing property damage, 500 dirhams for operating an unlicensed vehicle, and an additional 500 dirhams for driving without valid insurance, culminating in a total fine of 4,000 dirhams. Furthermore, the court suspended his driving licence for three months.
