Severe Hailstorm and Rainfall Hits Eastern UAE Again

Unseasonably cool weather featuring hail and rain has gripped the eastern regions of the UAE for the second consecutive day, as a surface low pressure system from the east continues to influence conditions. This weather pattern has led to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, resulting in thunderstorms and strong winds carrying dust from early afternoon until the evening.

Weather Update for July 28, 2026

By Tuesday afternoon, hail was reported in Masafi and Murbaid, with rain falling in Masafi and along the Al Watan Road in the eastern region. The National Centre of Meteorology stated that the lowest recorded temperature today was 26.3°C at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at approximately 3:15 AM. Today’s weather transitioned from clear to partially cloudy, with active winds intensifying dust storms in the eastern and western regions.

Forecast for the Coming Days

As we look ahead, the meteorological centre forecasts the continuation of cumulonimbus cloud formation over the internal and southern regions, with expectations of additional rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. For Wednesday, a mix of clear and partially cloudy skies is predicted, along with potential thunderstorms in the east and south during the afternoon. Winds are expected to shift from southeast to northeast, varying between light to moderate speeds of 10 to 25 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 40 km/h. The sea will remain relatively calm in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

On Thursday, partly cloudy conditions are anticipated alongside a slight increase in temperature, with the possibility of more cumulonimbus clouds developing in the eastern and southern regions, which may also bring rainfall. Winds will again shift from southeast to northeast, maintaining moderate speeds similar to Wednesday. The sea conditions are expected to remain stable.

Looking Further Ahead

Friday’s weather is projected to be clear to partially cloudy, with the emergence of clouds potentially developing into thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons in the eastern and southern areas. Winds are likely to transition from northeast to northwest, maintaining a light to moderate pace, reaching up to 35 km/h at times. The calm sea conditions will persist throughout the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

On Saturday, similarly seasonal weather patterns are expected, with clear to partially cloudy skies and possible thunderstorms in the eastern and southern regions during the afternoon. Winds will continue to be light to moderate, enhancing positive conditions for those enjoying outdoor activities.

Stay tuned for further weather updates as conditions evolve across the UAE.
