Groundbreaking Registration for Selforse International
The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has officially registered “Selforse International LLC,” a subsidiary of the Raj Group based in Dubai, as the first family-owned business from an Indian family to be entered in the Unified Family Business Register. This milestone underscores the robust legislative and regulatory environment in the UAE, showcasing its increasing attractiveness for global family businesses.
Significance of the Registration
The certificate of incorporation was presented in a ceremony attended by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, and Dr. Mustafa Sasa, Chairman and Managing Director of the Raj Group. This registration comes as a result of the company successfully completing all requirements according to Federal Law Decree No. (37 of 2022) concerning family businesses.
Emphasising Legislative Developments
Al Marri highlighted that this achievement reflects the successful economic and legislative policies aimed at enhancing the appeal of the UAE markets for family businesses. These efforts include creating a comprehensive legislative and institutional framework that ensures the continuity and institutional efficiency of family firms, as well as facilitating their seamless transition across generations, in line with global best practices. This is essential for supporting national economic competitiveness and bolstering the UAE’s position as a leading destination for long-term business and investments.
Trust in UAE’s Business Environment
He stated, “The UAE continues, under the guidance of its wise leadership, to establish a progressive legislative and regulatory environment that fosters the growth and expansion of family businesses. They are a vital partner in the economic development journey and a key driver of a knowledge-based and innovative economy.” He further noted, “The state has provided an advanced regulatory framework to enhance the sustainability of these businesses, ensuring their governance and smooth continuity across generations within a competitive business environment that offers vast growth opportunities across more than 2,000 economic activities.”
Impact on the Economy
The inclusion of the first Indian-owned family business in the registry signifies the high level of trust in the national business environment. It also demonstrates the flexibility of the legal frameworks governing family businesses, which have proven their adaptability to economic changes. Today, these businesses contribute approximately 60% of the GDP, employ about 80% of the workforce, and account for nearly 90% of total private enterprises in the UAE.
A Milestone for the Raj Group
Dr. Mustafa Sasa remarked, “Receiving accreditation from the Ministry of Economy and Tourism as a family business, and becoming the first Indian-owned family company in the UAE to obtain this recognition, marks a significant milestone in our longstanding journey. It exemplifies the supportive environment for the growth and sustainability of family companies in the UAE. The UAE has always been a land of opportunities and success, enabling our family business to thrive since 1958. We express our sincere gratitude to the Ministry for its continuous support and for launching the family business framework, which provides a comprehensive means to preserve the legacy and sustainability of these enterprises while facilitating their generational transition and ongoing growth.”
