In a significant effort to enhance water supply and management, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority has successfully completed the extension and replacement of water networks spanning over 70 kilometers across the emirate. This initiative, which aligns with the increasing demand for water services, aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the water infrastructure, ensuring residents receive reliable access to this vital resource.
In the first quarter of 2026, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority launched a series of strategic projects to expand and upgrade water networks. The total length of these projects exceeded 70 kilometers, demonstrating the authority’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for water in accordance with the highest technical and global standards. In this context, Engineer Faisal Al-Sarkal, Director of the Water Department at the authority, confirmed that the authority is implementing main line projects and water distribution networks in new areas, in addition to replacing old networks.
New Projects to Enhance Infrastructure
The vital projects carried out by the authority included the completion of the water distribution network in the Al-Sajja Industrial Area, extending over 30.5 kilometers. Additionally, a project was implemented to complete the water transmission line connecting industrial areas 11, 15, and 17, spanning 2.3 kilometers, with a total cost of approximately 5 million dirhams. These projects aim to improve the level of services provided to the emirate’s residents and ensure the sustainability of supplies.
Replacement of Old Networks and Technologies Used
As part of efforts to replace water networks, old networks in the Al-Naseriya area were replaced over a total length of 20 kilometers, using a new network made of Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) material. This material provides high efficiency and long-term operational durability, contributing to the improved sustainability of the network. The work also included the extension of water lines in the Al-Mawared 6 area over 22 kilometers, at a cost of 7.5 million dirhams.
Authority’s Commitment to Improving Services
The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority considers the improvement of water network infrastructure an essential part of its development plan. Through these projects, urban and population growth in the emirate is enhanced, ensuring resource sustainability and increasing the efficiency of services provided. The completion of the water network in the Al-Juraina area, extending over 5 kilometers with an estimated cost of 4 million dirhams, reaffirms this commitment and reflects the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
