Revolutionizing Brand Trading Through an Innovative Digital Platform

The launch of the first digital platform for buying and trading trademarks in the United Arab Emirates marks a significant milestone in the region’s intellectual property landscape. Known as “سوق العلامات التجارية,” this innovative marketplace enables businesses and entrepreneurs to engage in a secure and transparent environment, enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE’s trademark sector. Developed by the UAE Government Leaders Program, this initiative aims to elevate the trademark industry and attract global brands, fueling economic growth and innovation in the country.

Unveiling the Marketplace

Today, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism officially introduced “سوق العلامات التجارية” during an event held in Abu Dhabi. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy and Tourism, and other key officials. They expressed optimism about how this digital platform represents a pioneering effort, not only for the UAE but also for the broader region. The platform aims to facilitate the registration and trading of trademarks, connecting established trademark owners with investors and entrepreneurs in a dynamic marketplace.

Strategic Goals and Benefits

According to Abdullah bin Touq, “سوق العلامات التجارية” serves as a crucial step towards a knowledge-based economy, aligning with the UAE leadership’s vision. The platform is expected to enhance market attractiveness for trademarks by up to 20% in its first operational year while also encouraging investment in intangible assets. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to provide a fair financial valuation for trademark holders, thus transforming these brands into economically viable assets.

Support for Small and Medium Enterprises

One of the standout features of “سوق العلامات التجارية” is its dedication to empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and family businesses. By allowing these entities to convert their brand strength into financial assets, the platform plays a vital role in promoting the trading of intangible assets. This approach is anticipated to streamline their access to growth opportunities and strengthen their market presence.

Operational Guidelines and Regulations

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism oversees the platform’s operations, ensuring compliance with both national and international intellectual property laws. Uniform agreements and high consumer protection standards are in place to safeguard participants. The platform’s services will be limited to registered trademarks, adhering to Federal Law No. (36) of 2021 to secure the rights of trademark owners while promoting transparency and security in transactions conducted on the platform.

To participate in buying and selling on “سوق العلامات التجارية,” users must log in, ensuring the security of transactions and validating the identity of all participants. Financial transactions are facilitated through a safe and seamless electronic payment system.

As of the latest data, the UAE has witnessed impressive growth in trademark registrations, with 34,234 national and international trademarks recorded from January to early November 2025. The first half of this year alone saw a remarkable 129% increase in registrations compared to the same period last year, indicating a robust market presence and the effectiveness of the new platform.
