The 28th edition of the Sharjah Award for the Holy Quran and the Sunnah has officially commenced, highlighting the emirate’s dedication to fostering a deep appreciation for the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah among its citizens. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, this award not only celebrates excellence in Quranic recitation and understanding but also reinforces the significance of these spiritual pillars in shaping future generations.
Recently, the Sharjah Foundation for the Holy Quran and the Sunnah announced the launch of the Sharjah Award for the Holy Quran and the Sunnah for its 28th iteration (1447 AH / 2025 CE). The initiative underscores the emirate’s commitment to honoring the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah, which serve as guiding lights and strongholds of identity and values. This year’s award encompasses various categories, including those for different age groups in Quran recitation, as well as for imams, memorizers, and a special category for mothers who preserve the teachings.
The award structure includes several branches, such as the Quran recitation competition across various age levels, a category for the most beautiful recitation, and a specific branch dedicated to the Sunnah. Additionally, there are complementary activities involving the selection of the best private Quran center in the emirate and the most effective Quranic study circles. The eligibility criteria for participants ensure inclusivity, allowing both citizens and residents of all ages to compete. Strict regulations have been established for various levels—from those applicable in Sharjah to those intended for nationwide participants and those particular to Quranic study circles associated with the foundation.
Interested contestants can find comprehensive details on the entry requirements, branches, and participation mechanisms on the foundation’s official website. Registration is now open and will last until October 2, with preliminary rounds scheduled to take place from October 13 to October 30. Final selections will be held from November 17 through November 27, followed by the announcement of results on December 11. This timeline allows participants to prepare adequately, reflecting the award’s esteemed standing and its transformative impact.
Notably, the 28th edition introduces a new branch focusing on Quranic readings in the emirate of Sharjah. This initiative aligns with the foundation’s goal of promoting Quranic reciters and providing a platform for them to showcase their talents in Islamic knowledge. Sultan Matar bin Dalmouk Al Kutbi, the chairman of the foundation, emphasized that this award has been a prominent avenue for Quranic and scientific engagement in Sharjah since its inception in 1997, thanks to the patronage and support from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
Al Kutbi highlighted that this edition continues a distinguished legacy aimed at recognizing the dedication of Quran memorizers and students of the Sunnah, motivating Quranic institutions to intensify their efforts in serving the Book of Allah and the teachings of His Messenger, peace be upon him. The integration of a new category for readings serves as a qualitative addition, enhancing the award’s objectives.
Omar Al Shamsi, Director of the Sharjah Foundation for the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, remarked that the award has become a significant catalyst in encouraging the youth to engage with Quran memorization and improve their recitation skills. This initiative deepens their connection to their religious and cultural identity. He reassured that the foundation prioritizes transparency in the registration and nomination processes, enabling official entities and Quranic centers to nominate participants seamlessly, which reflects the award’s comprehensive and systematic management.
Al Shamsi concluded by underscoring that the Sharjah Award for the Holy Quran and the Sunnah transcends mere competition; rather, it represents a holistic community and cultural project that embodies the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. This initiative aims to center the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah in human development, promote values of moderation and balance, and prepare a generation that is firmly rooted in its identity, capable of serving its faith and country.
