Record 395 Million People Embrace Public Transport in Early 2025

395 Million Passengers Used Public Transport in the First Half of 2025

In the first half of this year, there was a notable increase in the use of public transport in Dubai, with the number of passengers reaching 395 million. These figures include Dubai Metro services, Dubai Tram, public buses, marine transport, as well as shared transport options like taxis. These trends reflect a significant shift in the mobility culture among the city’s residents and visitors, showcasing the efficiency of the system and its ability to meet everyone’s needs.

Notable Increase in User Numbers

The Roads and Transport Authority announced that the number of public transport users in the first half of 2025 reached approximately 395.3 million passengers, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded around 361.2 million passengers. The average daily number of passengers was nearly 2.18 million, up from 1.98 million in the first half of 2024.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, commented, “The continuous growth in the number of public transport users reflects users’ confidence in the efficiency of this system and the quality of services provided.” The Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to improving transport quality and creating a sustainable environment for all segments of society.

New Infrastructure Improvements

The public transport system in Dubai is witnessing significant improvements thanks to infrastructure development efforts. The Blue Line of the Dubai Metro, spanning 30 kilometers with 14 stations covering nine vital areas, is currently under construction. The Authority has also recently signed four agreements for the supply of 637 new buses that meet European specifications with low carbon emissions. These steps reflect the Authority’s commitment to transitioning its bus fleet to fully electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2050.

Details on Different Modes of Transport

The Dubai Metro accounted for 36.5% of total passengers, followed by taxi services at 26%. Last May recorded the highest number of passengers, reaching 68.8 million. This positive change in mobility culture among various segments of society reinforces the role of public transport as a cornerstone in Dubai.

Dubai Metro stations also recorded record numbers, with Burjuman Station being the busiest, serving over 8.6 million passengers, followed by Al Rigga and Union stations. Regarding the tram, it transported 4.9 million passengers, while public buses carried 95.7 million passengers.

Integration and Expansion Strategies

The Authority is working on strategies aimed at enhancing integration among all modes of transport. These plans include developing road networks and various means such as metro, tram, and buses, in addition to improving pedestrian and cycling facilities. The Authority also aims to encourage the public to reduce reliance on private vehicles, contributing to raising the proportion of trips via public transport to 25% by 2030.

Dubai continues to provide sustainable mobility solutions that meet the needs of its residents and visitors, reflecting ongoing success in implementing the Authority’s plans for public transport development.
