Al Maktoum International Expands Connectivity with 27 Airlines

Al Maktoum International Airport continues to expand its operational network, featuring 27 airlines servicing 50 destinations around the globe. This impressive growth highlights Dubai‘s strategic position as a central hub for international travel. With ongoing developments in infrastructure and service technology, this airport promises not just efficiency but also a seamless travel experience for passengers.

During a recent interview, Majid Al Joker, the Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, emphasized the commitment to implementing smart solutions and digital systems to enhance operational efficiency and streamline travel processes. One of the standout innovations is the “Red Carpet” technology, which efficiently accommodates over ten travelers simultaneously. This advancement significantly reduces bottlenecks at security checkpoints, contributing to a smoother transit experience.

Al Joker elaborated that Dubai International Airport currently boasts over 120 smart gates, utilized by around 44% of the more than 95 million passengers projected by 2025. This use of technology has notably improved traffic flow within the airport while minimizing waiting times for travelers. Furthermore, he revealed a comprehensive update to passenger screening devices, developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Airport Security. Advanced third-generation screening equipment featuring 3D CT scanning is being installed in Passenger Terminal 3, with completion expected by May. This technology upgrade aims to bolster security levels, increase passenger capacity, and enhance fluidity throughout the airport.

Moreover, Al Joker highlighted that the new systems yield high-resolution three-dimensional images, allowing travelers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their bags during security checks. Presently, 27 airlines operate from Al Maktoum International Airport, offering flights to 50 international destinations. The addition of two more airlines in the current year is anticipated, broadening the airport’s reach further.

With plans aimed at sustaining the current growth trajectory, projections indicate that Al Maktoum International Airport may welcome over 100 million passengers in the forthcoming year. Al Joker noted, “As the maximum capacity of Dubai International Airport ranges between 114 and 118 million passengers, it is natural for some airlines to begin transitioning their operations or part of their routes to Al Maktoum by the start of 2027 as part of a calculated relocation strategy.”

As Dubai Airports pushes forward with innovative technologies and operational improvements, the future looks promising for passengers traveling through Al Maktoum International Airport and its growing network of 27 airlines connecting to 50 destinations worldwide.
