Zubaidi Strengthens Commitment with Backing from UAE

In a recent interview with “Sky News Arabia,” Major General Aidarous al-Zubaidi shed light on the pivotal role the UAE has played in supporting southern Yemen, particularly since 2015. He emphasized that the Emirates‘ contributions have been invaluable across humanitarian, developmental, and military sectors, asserting that “our resolve has not been broken.” Al-Zubaidi’s remarks highlight the ongoing struggle for stability in the region and the collaboration that has unfolded to protect southern interests.

The UAE’s Impact on the South

Al-Zubaidi noted that since 2015, the UAE has provided significant support to Hadhramaut and the broader southern region. He described the Emirates as a “wonderful model to emulate,” given its humanitarian, developmental, and military assistance. This support has been crucial in strengthening local forces, with al-Zubaidi stating that “the southern armed forces and the Hadhrami Elite Forces are capable of defending the land from any enemy, whether terrorist, Houthi, or from the Brotherhood.”

Condemnation of Recent Attacks

Commenting on the recent bombing of the port city of Mukalla, al-Zubaidi condemned the act as a “grave mistake and aggression.” He firmly believed that the region posed no threat to the legitimacy or to Saudi Arabia. Al-Zubaidi pointed out that “the Houthi group, the Brotherhood organization, and the legitimacy led by Rashad al-Alimi are the real beneficiaries of these situations,” indicating a complex web of political motives behind the violence.

Concerns Over Legitimacy

Al-Zubaidi also criticized Rashad al-Alimi’s recent statement, labeling it “illegal,” as it had not received the consensus of half the council members nor was there prior consultation before its release. He expressed frustration over Al-Alimi issuing statements unilaterally, which has significantly affected the partnership dynamics. “We consider the partnership over when such a biased statement is made against the people of the south and Hadhramaut,” he said, highlighting issues of representation and respect for southern interests.

A Message of Resilience

In closing, al-Zubaidi asserted that the strategic moves being made aim to “break the will of the southerners and dampen their aspirations for independence.” Nevertheless, he firmly conveyed hope to the people of the south, declaring, “our resolve has not been broken, and we are committed to declaring the state.” This statement reinforces the resolve and determination of the southern leadership as they navigate through turbulent times.
