In a remarkable achievement that enhances the UAE’s proud legacy, 17-year-old Fatima Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi has successfully reached the summit of Mount Elbrus in Russia, standing at an impressive height of 5,642 meters. This accomplishment marks her as the youngest Emirati to scale the highest peak in Europe. The journey reflects Fatima’s ambitious quest to conquer the “Seven Summits” across the globe, having previously climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, just last year.
Facing the Elements
Supported by Dar Al Tamweel, one of the leading financial institutions in the UAE that believes in empowering the next generation, Fatima faced the harsh challenges posed by severe weather conditions and rugged terrain. With the UAE flag held high, she aimed to convey a message of hope and inspiration to Arab youth, particularly young girls. Her determination and effort exemplify the spirit of adventure and resilience that defines Emirati youth.
A Tribute to Leadership
Fatima dedicated this achievement to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation,” in recognition of their substantial support for Emirati women and youth, empowering them to achieve their ambitions. Fatima stated, “Without the belief of our leadership in us and their continuous encouragement, I wouldn’t have been able to reach this summit. I dedicate this achievement to those who taught us that an Emirati knows no limits.”
An Inspiring Model
As a source of inspiration for ambitious Emirati youth, Fatima serves as an ambassador for dreams that transcend borders. She draws upon her experiences in volunteer work and leadership skills, seeking to blend her passion for adventure with her community goals. She plans to launch environmental and humanitarian initiatives in the future aimed at supporting marginalized communities and protecting nature.
Embracing Dreams
Fatima reflects on her journey, saying, “I may be closer to the starting line than the finish line right now, but I believe that age does not limit one’s capabilities, and great dreams grow alongside learning. Life is too short to settle for the ordinary; we must discover the world and explore our true selves.”
Furthermore, she emphasizes, “It’s not just about reaching peaks; it’s about proving that Emirati and Arab youth, especially girls, have a role to play in leadership, adventure, and effecting change.”
With heartfelt gratitude, Fatima expressed her deep appreciation for her parents, saying, “To my mother, Dr. Amla Al Qubaisi, you have been my anchor and source of strength. And to my late father, Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi, you taught me to ascend steadily toward the summit until I can touch the clouds.”
Fatima Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi’s journey not only highlights her achievements but also signifies a beacon of aspiration for the future generations of the UAE.
