23-year-old Ahmed from Egypt is facing a tough battle against cancer, which has returned more aggressively and is threatening his health. He urgently needs treatment that costs up to 46,000 dirhams. Ahmed has been suffering from lymphoma for some time and requires intensive chemotherapy sessions, estimated to cost 46,000 dirhams, to control the disease and prevent its spread throughout his body. However, his family’s financial situation does not permit them to raise the needed funds, prompting his father to appeal to those with compassion to assist in saving his son’s life.
A medical report from Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, part of the Health Authority, indicated that the patient initially had a tumor in his testicle, which was surgically removed. Subsequently, cancer spread to other parts of his body. During that time, he underwent chemotherapy, and his health improved. However, the cancer has recently returned more aggressively, and the report noted that the delay in receiving necessary treatment puts his life at risk.
Onset of Symptoms and Initial Examination
Ahmed’s father recounts his son’s ordeal to “Emirates Today,” saying: “About four months ago, my son was experiencing a high fever and pain in his lower abdomen. We gave him some painkillers, but they were ineffective. So we immediately took him to the nearest clinic. During the medical examination, a tumor was found in one of his testicles, and the doctor requested additional tests and a blood analysis.”
He continued: “The test results showed that he had a tumor in his testicle, which was the cause of those symptoms. The doctor advised us to transfer him to a government hospital for further assessment of his health condition.”
He added: “We immediately went to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where he underwent medical examination in the emergency department, and all necessary tests were conducted. It was shocking when we confirmed that he had testicular cancer, and my wife and I broke down in tears.”
Treatment Journey and Return of the Illness
He continued: “The doctor informed us that surgery was necessary to remove the tumor and to start chemotherapy sessions to prevent the disease from spreading and affecting other organs. My son underwent chemotherapy at the hospital after the tumor was removed, and after months, his health improved. We adhered to regular medical check-ups and follow-ups at the hospital.”
He said: “We were shocked recently to find that cancer had returned, but this time it was more severe, affecting the lymph nodes. The treating physician confirmed that he needed chemotherapy and a specific type of treatment,” noting that the cost of treatment is estimated at 46,000 dirhams.
He explained that his health insurance does not cover the cost of his son’s treatment, and he initially relied on financial assistance from friends and charitable individuals. He pointed out that he is the sole breadwinner for his family of four and works in a private sector job with a salary of 4,500 dirhams, from which he pays rent, and the remainder goes towards daily living expenses.
