The US military has dismissed claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that two oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after striking mines in the international waterway.
US rejects the allegation
In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard said that “two oil tankers attempting to cross a minefield south of the Strait of Hormuz, after falling victim to deception and misinformation from US intelligence services, exploded and caught fire.” The statement did not identify the nationality of the vessels or say whether anyone was injured.
The US military, which maintains a tight naval blockade on Iran, denied the allegation.
Washington calls the claim false
The US military said: “The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claims that two oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after colliding with mines in the international waterway. The US military indicated that this incident, like most Revolutionary Guard claims, is unfounded, confirming that this allegation is untrue.”
