UAE’s Economy Projected to Surge 7.7% by 2027

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its growth forecast for the United Arab Emirates’ economy, anticipating a remarkable increase of 7.7% by 2027. This marks an increase of 2.4 percentage points from earlier predictions made in April. The IMF attributes this optimistic outlook to the UAE’s substantial financial reserves, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and robust economic and technological capabilities, positioning the nation to leverage future growth opportunities while effectively tackling both regional and global challenges.

Key Insights from the IMF Press Conference

This forecast was unveiled during a press conference organised by the Dubai International Financial Centre in collaboration with the IMF, titled “Resilience in the Face of Challenges: Diverging Economic Outlooks in the Middle East and North Africa.” Dr. Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, presented key findings from the October 2026 report on the “Regional Economic Outlook for the Middle East and Central Asia,” followed by a panel discussion featuring policymakers, economic experts, and private sector leaders.

Financial Resilience and Economic Strategy

The report highlights the UAE’s significant financial reserves, which provide the country with the flexibility to employ financial policies that support economic activity when necessary, while maintaining medium-term fiscal sustainability. It underscores the critical role of investments in infrastructure development, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and sustaining economic activities, all of which are essential for future growth.

Readiness for Technological Advancements

According to Dr. Azour, economies in the region have demonstrated an impressive capability to respond to economic crises, benefiting from the experiences and policies developed over the past years, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the UAE is among the countries best positioned to capitalise on rapid developments in artificial intelligence, thanks to its prior investments, advanced infrastructure, and technological expertise. Continued investment in this sector could contribute an additional 0.5 percentage points to the country’s annual economic growth.

Investment in Digital Infrastructure

Dr. Azour also emphasised the necessity of ongoing investments in digital infrastructure and the development of human capital. By enhancing skills and fostering innovation ecosystems, the UAE can create exportable AI-driven services that enhance productivity and diversify growth sources.

Inflation Outlook for the Region

On the topic of inflation, the report forecasts a decline in the average inflation rate across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to 2.4% by 2027, potentially reaching around 2% starting in 2028. This projected decline is attributed to falling commodity prices and ongoing fiscal discipline.

As the UAE gears up for a promising economic future, the emphasis on strategic investments and technological advancements will play a pivotal role in sustaining its growth trajectory.
