The University of the Emirates enhances its leadership in the field of artificial intelligence through a series of strategic initiatives aimed at integrating this advanced science into educational systems, research, and services. The university intensifies its efforts to achieve a digital transformation that aligns with national visions and to provide innovative solutions that support community and economic growth.

Building an Integrated System

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi, the university director, stated that the University of the Emirates places artificial intelligence at the core of its future vision. The university seeks to build an integrated system that encompasses all aspects of education, research, and community service, with the goal of preparing a generation of national competencies capable of leading the digital future.

Institutional Policies and Appointment of an AI Executive Director

Al-Raisi added that the approved agenda reflects the university’s commitment to systematically integrating artificial intelligence into all aspects of university environments. These efforts include institutional policies and the appointment of an executive director for artificial intelligence, who will oversee the implementation of high-impact initiatives in this field.

Aspirational Roadmap to Enhance Research and Educational Capacities

The “AI Agenda 2025–2031” includes an ambitious roadmap aimed at enhancing the university’s research and educational capabilities in this vital field. This agenda seeks to develop interdisciplinary solutions to address societal challenges and increase the university’s academic impact at both local and international levels.

1,000 Peer-Reviewed Studies in AI-Related Fields

Over the past five years, researchers at the University of the Emirates have published more than 1,000 peer-reviewed studies in various fields related to artificial intelligence, as indexed in the Scopus database. These studies cover disciplines such as health, engineering, environment, education, and social sciences.

Ongoing projects include research on assessing the performance of neural networks in monitoring concrete structures, predictive models for hospital stays of lung cancer patients, and systems for measuring student attention in classrooms.

Research Projects Including Rain Prediction Using Machine Learning

In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, the University of the Emirates leads research projects that utilize machine learning for rain prediction, hybrid models for predicting ozone concentration, and monitoring groundwater levels through techniques that combine statistical analysis and neural networks.

Effective Partnerships with Leading International Institutions

The university enhances its global research presence through strategic partnerships with prestigious international institutions in the field of artificial intelligence, including the University of Malaya, Western Sydney University, and the University of Texas. These partnerships contribute to the advancement of research and the improvement of the university’s scientific outputs.

Establishment of New Academic Programs in Artificial Intelligence

In the academic framework, the university has decided to make artificial intelligence a graduation requirement for all students starting from the Fall 2025/2026 semester, ensuring that national competencies are prepared for the demands of the digital economy. The approved programs include a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Data Analysis, featuring modern courses developed by faculty members.

Course “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence”

The curriculum includes the course “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence,” which provides a comprehensive overview of the history, applications, and societal impacts of artificial intelligence, available to all disciplines. Additionally, there is a course on “Fundamentals and Applications of Artificial Intelligence,” focusing on concepts and techniques such as robotics and computer vision, with practical applications in smart cities and healthcare.

Course “Artificial Intelligence in Engineering”

For those interested in specialized applications, the university offers the course “Artificial Intelligence in Engineering,” which covers predictive maintenance and optimization of industrial systems, as well as the course “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine,” which focuses on technology-assisted diagnostics and drug development, contributing to the increasing needs in the healthcare sector.
