UAE Introduces Major Visa Reforms Starting August 10

On August 10, 2025, the United Arab Emirates will implement significant changes to its visa system, introducing four new types of visas and modifying existing requirements. These updates aim to streamline processes for those looking to work, invest, or reunite with family in the UAE. As a direct consequence, it is essential for potential applicants to understand how these developments could impact their eligibility and application procedures. In this article, we will explore the major revisions in the visa framework under the banner of الإمارات تُطلق 5 تغييرات كبيرة على التأشيرات اعتبارًا من 10 أغسطس.

New Visa Categories in the UAE

To attract talents, tourists, and investors in emerging sectors, the UAE is unveiling four new visa categories:

  • AI Specialists Visa: Designed for foreign professionals in artificial intelligence. Type: Multiple Entry. Duration: 60 or 90 days, extendable up to 120 or 180 days.
  • Events Visa: Intended for visitors attending cultural, educational, religious, or sporting events. Duration: 30 or 60 days, extendable up to 180 days.
  • Specialized Gaming Events Visa: Tailored for individuals participating in business gaming activities. Type: 30-day visa, renewable once.
  • Cruise Visa: Created for tourists arriving on cruise ships or leisure boats. Type: Multiple Entry for 30 days, with an option to extend for another 30 days.

Stricter Rules for Business Exploration Visas

The UAE has made it clear that the requirements for obtaining a business exploration visa are tightening. Previously, individuals with skills could enter the UAE without needing to demonstrate financial capability. Moving forward, all applicants must now provide proof of their financial stability, which may include:

  • Bank statements
  • Company financial records
  • Investment documentation

This change raises the bar for entry, potentially limiting opportunities for early-stage entrepreneurs who may have limited funds.

Revised Rules for Visiting Friends or Family

In an effort to make it easier for more individuals to sponsor visits, the UAE is introducing new income limits for sponsors. Key updates include:

  • Minimum monthly income required based on the degree of kinship:
    • First-degree relatives: AED 4,000
    • Second and third-degree relatives: AED 8,000
    • Friends: AED 15,000
  • Eligibility Expansion: Sponsors are no longer required to meet specific professional levels under the Ministry of Human Resources.
  • Coverage Extension: Third-degree relatives are now included, whereas only first and second-degree relationships were previously considered.

As a result, a broader range of expatriates, including those in lower-income or mid-skilled jobs, can invite their loved ones. However, the new income barriers may restrict access for some who would have qualified under the older rules.

Expanded Residency Rights for Foreign Widows and Divorcees

The UAE has made strides in expanding residency rights for foreign women married to Emirati citizens without children. Now, these women can apply for residency permits—a significant change from the previous restrictions that applied only to those with children. Applications must be submitted within six months of the husband’s death or divorce.

This adjustment offers greater stability for these women facing challenges in life within the UAE, making it easier for them to navigate their circumstances without added pressures.

Additional Notable Changes

Several other updates are also worthy of attention:

  • Residency for widows and divorcees: Expanded eligibility allows foreign widows or divorcees of Emirati citizens without children to apply for residency within six months of the spouse’s death or divorce.
  • Income requirements for dependents: Specific income thresholds will apply to sponsors supporting six or more dependents.
  • Travel restrictions: The UAE will limit travel flexibility and eliminate sponsor requirements for citizens from countries affected by war or disaster.
  • Truck Drivers Visa: Entry visas for truck drivers will now allow for single or multiple entries, with updated eligibility criteria.

As the UAE continues to evolve its visa policies, understanding the implications of هذه التغييرات الكبيرة على التأشيرات is crucial for anyone looking to live, work, or visit this dynamic country.
