UAE Experts Reveal AI Consultant Boosts Government Decision-Making Speed

Experts in the United Arab Emirates have affirmed that the newly introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory System for the Cabinet will provide government leaders with a more comprehensive perspective when formulating policies. This innovative system enhances their ability to keep pace with regulatory developments and to monitor decisions through to their implementation.

Supporting Decision-Making

Experts involved in the UAE Experts Programme clarified that the AI Advisory System is designed to support ministers and government leaders, rather than replace human judgement in decision-making. By offering faster analyses, a broader knowledge base, and continually updated recommendations, the system aims to improve the overall quality of policy development. Additionally, experts will engage in live sessions as part of the third training unit of the AI Programme, alongside a select group of decision-makers and specialists spearheading AI initiatives in the UAE. Notable figures include H.E. Faisal Abdulaziz Al-Banai, Advisor to the President on Strategic Research and Advanced Technology, and Secretary-General of the Advanced Technology Research Council.

Linking Government Decisions

Engineer Yasser Al-Shahi, a specialist in developing a multi-sectoral AI strategy, indicated that one of the most significant capabilities of the AI system is its ability to connect the potential impacts of decisions across various government and community sectors. He noted that the effects of government decisions rarely remain confined to a single sector. For instance, the repercussions of a policy in the transport sector may extend to the economy, sustainability, infrastructure, and society as a whole. In this context, AI can aid in linking these sectors, forecasting potential outcomes, and providing policymakers with a more holistic view, turning information into precise, timely insights.

Pioneering AI in Policy-Making

Engineer Sultan Al-Raisi, representative of the sector overseeing AI policies and regulatory frameworks, stated that the initiative showcases the UAE’s leadership in transitioning AI from operational services to the core of policy-making processes. This initiative not only offers a practical model for employing AI in policy analysis, comparative assessments of regulatory frameworks, and evaluating potential outcomes of proposed decisions but also underscores the imperative for clear governance structures. He emphasised the importance of transparency, verification, and accountability in the evolving role of AI within policy-making.

Beyond Decision-Making

Mohammed Al-Katbi, representative of the Assistant AI sector, highlighted that the next phase of AI application in the governmental sector would go beyond merely aiding leaders in making decisions. It will include support in the execution of those decisions and monitoring their outcomes. Traditional AI systems respond to individual requests; however, the envisioned assistant AI can analyse goals, break them down into tasks, monitor progress, and identify when further actions may be necessary. This capability aims to bridge the gap between governmental decisions and targeted outcomes, as the effectiveness of a decision is measured not only by its approval but also by its success in achieving the desired results through tracking progress and identifying delays and risks.

Comprehensive AI Advisory System

It is noteworthy that the “AI Advisory System for the Cabinet” comprises 32 specialised advisors, supported by AI technology, tasked with analysing policies, legislation, strategies, and governmental systems.
