UAE and India Aim to Enhance Economic Partnership Opportunities

The UAE and India are striving to expand the benefits of their comprehensive economic partnership, focusing on increasing the advantages derived from this agreement across various economic sectors. During a recent visit to Mumbai, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation with his Indian counterpart, Piyush Goyal, emphasizing the opening of new horizons to boost trade and investments between the two countries.

Strategic Meetings to Strengthen Partnership

Dr. Al Zeyoudi’s official visit included several bilateral discussions with prominent Indian business leaders, where mechanisms to expand the benefits of the comprehensive economic partnership, which came into effect in May 2022, were explored. Both parties emphasized the importance of accelerating cooperation in various fields such as logistics, agriculture, and technology, aiming for greater benefits from the agreement.

Cooperation Between the Two Sides

Dr. Al Zeyoudi highlighted the necessity of collaboration between both sides to achieve the goals of the comprehensive economic partnership. He stated, “This visit reflects our mutual commitment to elevate our strategic relations to new horizons to achieve our economic objectives.” Ideas and insights were exchanged on how to maximize the untapped potential that still exists.

Figures Supporting Future Cooperation

The figures show a growing trend in trade exchange between the UAE and India, with non-oil bilateral trade reaching $37.6 billion in the first half of 2025, a 33.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized the importance of these figures as a step toward achieving the ambitious goals set during the signing of the comprehensive economic partnership.

Showcasing Major Projects

The visit also featured a presentation on the “Bharat Mart” project located in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in the UAE, managed by DP World. This project provides an ideal platform for Indian manufacturers and exporters, facilitating their access to global markets and enhancing the UAE’s status as a strategically important commercial hub in the region.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi also discussed with leaders in the pharmaceuticals and food sectors ways to enhance trade and develop strategies to overcome current challenges, thus exploring new areas for cooperation.
