Heli Forum 2025: A Platform for Global Dialogue
The second edition of the Heli Forum 2025 was launched in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Resetting the International Order: Trade, Technology, and Governance,” organized by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in collaboration with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy. The forum witnesses the participation of over 1,000 individuals and 70 speakers from more than 30 countries, making it a unique platform for discussing the strategic transformations affecting the international system in the fields of politics, economics, and technology.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Mari, Minister of Economy and Tourism, emphasized that the UAE remains “a beacon of security and stability amid the landscape of global turmoil,” as it navigates challenges ranging from daily tariff wars to climate crises and energy transitions. He pointed out that the UAE has strengthened its position as a global economic hub linking the East and West, reflecting its deep commitment to economic diplomacy aimed at building trust and global partnerships.
The Importance of the Palestinian Cause
In her speech, Her Excellency Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains at the heart of efforts to achieve peace in the region. She stated, “Palestine remains central to efforts for peace in the region,” stressing that “the annexation of Palestinian territories is a red line.” Nusseibeh believes that achieving peace requires collective efforts that agree on a two-state solution through effective dialogue.
She added that talks will not be effective unless the international order is reset, having undergone radical changes since the end of World War II. She noted that the forum represents an opportunity to enhance soft power and contribute to comprehensive dialogue among different regions.
New Avenues for Regional Cooperation
Dr. Sultan Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, highlighted the importance of dialogue in transforming global disruptions into opportunities for cooperation and growth. He confirmed that the forum continues the strategic partnership with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, explaining that the UAE has stood as a cultural, civilizational, and commercial crossroads for thousands of years.
In one of the sessions, Dr. Ibtisam Al Ketbi, founder and president of the Emirates Policy Center, discussed the impact of the Abraham Accords in expanding the UAE’s humanitarian diplomacy, noting that they have provided an opportunity to extend aid to Gaza. She mentioned that Gulf countries have been able to enhance their presence on the international stage due to their roles as financial and logistical centers.
Influential Geopolitical Transformations
Dr. Abdullah Hamdok, former Prime Minister of Sudan, emphasized the regional interconnectedness in the Red Sea, where challenges involve six countries sharing intertwined interests and crises. He added that “the Sudanese crisis is the largest humanitarian disaster in the world,” necessitating a comprehensive and multidimensional approach to address it.
The forum discusses three main themes: geopolitical, geo-economic, and geological, to provide a comprehensive view of the transformations occurring within the international system. By organizing this forum, the UAE continues its efforts to enhance its role as a beacon of stability in the face of global challenges.
A number of officials, decision-makers, experts, and thinkers from both inside and outside the country will participate in the forum, providing in-depth insights into current global issues and their future prospects, further solidifying the UAE’s position as a platform for dialogue and cooperation on an international level.
