Climate Change and Environment Launch a Package of National Events and Initiatives to Promote Environmental Sustainability

As part of ongoing efforts to combat climate change and enhance environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has launched a package of national events and initiatives in conjunction with World Environment Day and the Year of the Family. These events aim to instill sustainable community behaviors and encourage individuals to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles by engaging them in climate action, protecting natural resources, and preserving biodiversity.

Message for World Environment Day

These events align with this year’s message and official slogan for World Environment Day, “Act for Climate Today,” which highlights the importance of raising awareness about the facts and needs of climate action and drawing inspiration from nature to ensure a sustainable future. Through these campaigns, the ministry seeks to enhance awareness of climate issues and emphasize the urgent need for collective action to address the risks of climate change.

Community Participation

The events serve as a national open invitation for every individual to be an active part of the solution by protecting endangered species and enhancing vegetation. These initiatives also aim to expand the area of mangroves and ensure food safety, contributing to the resilience of ecosystems and supporting the country’s ambitious climate goals.

Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al-Dhahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated that our leadership’s future vision inspires these efforts, emphasizing that “we believe our nature is our true wealth and the guarantee of our future.” Therefore, achieving climate and environmental resilience must begin at the community level, calling for raising awareness among individuals and institutions and promoting new lifestyles.

Main Events and Initiatives

The ministry’s efforts in celebration of World Environment Day were distributed across three main events, including the release of sea turtles, the planting of mangrove trees, and an initiative to educate senior citizens about the importance of food safety. All these events were conducted in effective partnership with relevant authorities in the country, reflecting the importance of joint environmental action and community spirit.

The Government Communication Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment confirmed that “a sustainable future begins with the family,” as families play a crucial role in instilling the value of resource conservation. Over the past three years, the ministry has achieved significant milestones, engaging more than 8,000 volunteers and 5,000 students, resulting in the planting of over 459,000 trees, the distribution of 600,000 seedlings, and 6.5 million seeds.

Focus on Community Awareness

Among the highlights of this package of events, the ministry organized a sea turtle release event at the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary in Dubai, in collaboration with the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority. This initiative is considered an important environmental tradition, contributing to marine ecological balance and improving ocean health.

In the context of enhancing community awareness, the ministry held a workshop titled “Food Safety System” targeting senior citizens, in cooperation with the Community Development Authority in Dubai. This event emphasized the importance of targeting all segments of society in efforts to promote food security and sustainability.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment continues to expand its initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability, having organized a field event for planting mangrove trees at Khor Kalba Park in Sharjah, in collaboration with the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority. These events align with the UAE’s commitments to the “Mangrove Alliance for Climate” objectives.

The ministry reaffirms its commitment to fostering cooperation among all segments of society, inviting everyone to work together to protect the planet and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
