There’s no shortage of Sunday roasts in Dubai, but finding one that gets the basics right — crisp potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding with real height and gravy worth lingering over — without drifting into hotel-brunch pricing is another story. That’s where The Barrel at Vida Creek Beach in Dubai Creek Harbour makes its case, with a roast that feels properly generous, quietly confident and, crucially, good value.
We were already impressed by The Barrel when we reviewed it earlier this month, noting that the newly licensed neighbourhood gastrobar understands the formula: barrels above the bar, comfort-led dishes, and a sense of warmth that makes it feel instantly settled. Its Sunday roast now gives us another reason to cross the bridge.
A Sunday roast that keeps things classic
Served every Sunday from 12pm to 5pm, The Barrel’s roast menu sticks to the essentials and does them well. Guests can choose from slow-roasted beef (Dhs135), roasted chicken breast (Dhs125) or baked crispy salmon (Dhs125), with each portion weighing in at a generous 180g.
The beef is the obvious headliner, slow-roasted and carved properly, but the supporting elements are what make the plate stand out. Every serving comes with crispy roasted potatoes, seasonal root vegetables, a traditional Yorkshire pudding, rich gravy and a homemade horseradish cream that adds a welcome hit of heat. It’s straightforward, comforting food that delivers exactly what a Sunday roast should.
Bottomless drinks without the usual Dubai premium
What really sets The Barrel apart is the new Bottomless Barrel package. Alongside the roast, diners can add three hours of unlimited drinks from Dhs199 for the house selection, or Dhs299 for the premium option. For those marking a special occasion, a bottle of Moët & Chandon can be added for Dhs300 — a notable price for bubbles in Dubai.
The result is a lunch that can easily turn into a long, lazy afternoon. With the roast running until 5pm and the drinks package available from midday, it suits everything from a relaxed family gathering to a low-key day out that rolls into golden hour on the Creek.
Inside The Barrel at Vida Creek Beach
This is very much a neighbourhood venue in the best sense: easygoing, welcoming and family-friendly by day, with a livelier feel in the evening. On our visit, the interiors felt warm and lived-in, with rich woods, soft lighting and cosy corners that work equally well for a quick drink or a slower meal. Service was genuinely friendly too, with the team happy to guide us through house favourites and suggest pairings from the extensive wine and beer list.
There’s also a terrace that is pet-friendly, so dogs can join the Sunday plans too once the weather allows. And if you fancy making more of the outing, Dubai Creek Harbour’s waterfront setting gives you a straightforward excuse for a stroll before or after lunch.
Is it worth crossing the bridge for?
In a city full of Sunday roast options, The Barrel makes a convincing argument for being one of the better-value picks. A proper roast from Dhs125 in one of Dubai’s prettiest newer neighbourhoods, with a bottomless drinks add-on that undercuts much of the city’s brunch scene, is hard to ignore.
If the roast wins you over, there’s more to explore on a return visit for dinner too: the Wiener schnitzel and sticky date toffee pudding both earned high praise in our full review.
