Recently, the Tadweer Group officially joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), marking a significant step in its commitment to innovative waste management solutions and the circular economy. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and the National Green Agenda 2030. By integrating sustainability into its operations, Tadweer aims to effectively harness the value of waste while supporting a global movement toward responsible business practices.
Tadweer’s Commitment to the UNGC Principles
The Tadweer Group pledges to adhere to the ten principles of the UNGC, focusing on environmental management and conducting annual progress reports. This commitment enhances transparency and accountability within the organization. As a result, Tadweer will connect with a global network of companies and experts that will accelerate its strategic ambition to divert 80% of Abu Dhabi‘s waste from landfills by 2030. Earlier this year, the group also embarked on a decarbonization pathway to minimize emissions across its operations.
CEO’s Vision for Sustainable Waste Management
Engineer Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer, stated, “Our accession to the United Nations Global Compact represents an extension of our pioneering journey and steadfast mission in leading the sustainable transformation of waste on a large scale. We are exploring opportunities to exploit and convert waste from an environmental burden into a source of clean energy, thus fostering the growth of green industries.” This encapsulates how Tadweer is aligning its efforts with the highest standards of environmental responsibility and community engagement.
Innovative Projects and Strategic Expansion
Tadweer’s membership in the UNGC enhances its international standing, especially amid the rapid expansion of its initiatives that extract value from waste. Among its most notable projects is the advanced Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility designed to provide power for over 250,000 homes annually. Additionally, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the largest of its kind in Abu Dhabi, strengthens its capacity to recover recyclable materials and reshape waste management practices.
Contributing to Global Climate Initiatives
This recent membership comes at a critical time as the UAE solidifies its global presence in climate action, particularly with the upcoming COP30 Conference of the Parties. Tadweer’s participation in the UNGC not only allows it to represent the UAE’s circular economy model on the world stage but also fosters impactful international partnerships. This deepens its contribution to the National Sustainability Agenda and reaffirms its role in shaping a more climate-efficient future. Through its transparent practices and robust international collaboration, Tadweer exemplifies waste management that adheres to the highest global standards.
